The flow of Kishin Eggs was a near constant stream, and while he was vaguely aware of the many that he and Sephiroth had destroyed, the next wave just kept coming. Some slipped by him to the teams beyond, but he made certain to step in to take on the ones that looked more lethal than the others. The trickle thankfully hadn't turned into a wave, but it was still grating on his sensations ( ... )

Despite his bladed form being covered with the blood of their enemy, it still sung loudly amongst the carnage. It had been some time since he'd had to keep this form for so long, and he could feel the strain beginning to mount. Sephiroth wouldn't allow his focus to weaken, however, and continually reminded himself just what was at stake.

The few targets that slipped by them were of no concern to the ex-General, as he was focused only on the ones that could deal any form of harm to Cloud. Nothing else mattered outside of the survival of his Meister, and he wouldn't allow for any attack to get passed his blade to land on the blonde.

'Perhaps' he said in return while Cloud launched himself towards one of the larger Kishin Eggs. His bladed form hit against the sharp claws, causing sparks to fly off of the metal, before Sephiroth felt the flesh of the creature's throat surrounding his length.

Such a situation didn't bother the ex-General in the slightest, and he coolly murmured in response, 'Yes, that must be the reason.'

The sparks from the meeting of blade and claws was one that he had expected, and as he shoved out the strong arm from reaching around to grasp him, he felt the Masamune shift up rapidly. The Kishin roared as the blade pierced through armour and slid through the creature's throat.

He shifted his grip and pulled the long blade through flesh, cutting through vital blood vessels. The roar turned into a wet gurgle as the Kishin fell backwards with Cloud still firmly planted on its chest. The body disintegrated to leave yet another red soul, and this time he lurched forward to cough violently.

Backing up quickly, he held the Masamune defensively as his abdomen heaved with effort that he fought against. He managed to keep it to heaves and had to spit as he rose, batting away a Kishin as it flew at him, cutting it in half. A weak one, he thought. 'I'm not sure how much longer I can stay out here in the front,' he finally admitted, the gusto leaving his voice.

The sharp edge of his blade tore through the flesh of the kishin egg as Cloud pulled his Weapon form through it. He wouldn't deny feeling a bout of satisfaction within as the creature's roar turning into a satisfying wet gurgle, and inwardly smirked as it fell to the ground moments before disappearing to leave another token of their victory.

Still, he could feel the exhaustion beginning to settle into Cloud's body, and Sephiroth kept his silence as his Meister reacted to the sight of the glowing red orb. It left him frowning subtly, but the ex-General made no comment about the reaction.

'There are others who can take up the fight in our steed,' Sephiroth said after Cloud had batted away another Kishin Egg that flew in towards them. 'You should allow your body a moment to rest and recover before heading back out to battle again.' Since Sephiroth knew well that Cloud wouldn't remain on the sidelines should they retreat.

If need be, he wouldn't hesitate in partially transforming in order to protect that which belonged to him.

While he was normally ready and able to fight for long hours, this constant barrage of Kishin Eggs was grating. It wore at him, and he was certain that it also wore at his weapon and their resonance too. Plenty had retreated and been replaced by others, but he had stubborn pride on the line as well. He was using what he could to protect those within the city.

Straightening, he assessed the battlefield that he stood in and heaved a heavy sigh as he lifted an arm to wipe his mouth on. 'You and I are made to fight this. It's what we were built to do.' It was a lame excuse for staying on the battlefield, but he wasn't yet ready to leave.

If he stopped and rested, the minor scraps and bruises would make themselves known to him. He might even be aware of how tired he really was. No, he couldn't risk sitting down and struggling to get back up again. The flow of Kishin Eggs would have to slow eventually, and he would see it to the end.

'Do you need a break to turn back to human form? You've been a sword for a long time.' Longer than ( ... )

He could feel the flash of determination within Cloud in response to his words, and Sephiroth couldn't say that he was surprised by it either. The words his Meister spoke were true enough, and he knew well that neither of them would every truly back down from a fight.

'I will see this through to the end,' Sephiroth said in response to Cloud's question.

Stubborn will is what would keep him in this form, and he wouldn't allow for any of his weaknesses to place Cloud at risk. It didn't matter how much energy it took to remain in his transformed state, and if it meant that they would win at the cost of his strength, then that was how it would go. It was all worth it within his mind so long as Cloud remained protected.

It seemed that Sephiroth was willing to give it everything as well, though he suspected the ex-General's reasons were quite different from his own. Whatever the reasons, he would continue to fight for as long as Sephiroth was able to sustain the Masamune weapon form. They would see this through, even if it meant complete exhaustion at the end.

'We will see this through,' he replied, forcing his body back into motion forward.

A Kishin Egg hopped by him without stopping, and he carried forward to another larger and stronger one. Bearing the Masamune, he brought it up and then down sharply, sending an air slice to cut into and knock the Kishin back as he charged to finish the job.

The corrected words caught his attention, and he momentarily fixated his thoughts on the blonde. It appeared as though Cloud had caught wind of his intentions, and without saying it, had taken countermeasures to reassure him of his presence. The thought was pleasing, but the ex-General knew well that he would stop at nothing to protect Cloud, even if it was to protect the blonde from himself.

He felt no need to respond to the reply, and returned his attention back to the battle as Cloud returned to the fight. The following swift movements left him with the knowledge of the attack to come, and Sephiroth was far from surprised as his Meister released an air slice towards their next opponent.

The attack impacted with the Kishin Egg, and his blade sung loudly in response while Cloud began to charge in.

They were in this battle together as they had always been since they became partners. He wasn't going to let Sephiroth get away with thinking that this war was a one-man show. No, they did things together, and that was the way that they were going to be successful here.

The air slice did as he had hoped, and the Kishin Egg was forced to leave itself open for the next powerful attack that cut the humanoid-like creature from hip to shoulder. It lurched and fell over, dissolving into the red soul.

Cloud briefly gagged but tried to make it look like a hiccup as he stepped over the red soul and headed for the next target. 'I think I want you to make me a big dinner when I get through this. Maybe cupcakes for desert.'

Sephiroth could feel the sharp tip of his blade carving through flesh as Cloud swiped at the beast. It was a satisfying feeling, and one he didn't bother hiding from his Meister. His place had always been the battlefield, and it was where he felt most comfortable. Besides, Sephiroth knew that the blonde wouldn't reject him for feeling such a level of satisfaction.

The red orb seemed to pulsate as it hung in the air just off of the ground, but Sephiroth's attention shifted to the 'hiccup' Cloud gave in response to it. Keeping an eye on the reaction, the ex-General said nothing about it.

'You have been holding yourself well, but the battle is far from over,' he murmured for a lack of something to say. Sephiroth had never cooked such a thing before, and he never thought that he would either, but it appeared as though Cloud was insistent with obtaining his meal.

The satisfaction that Sephiroth felt was a nice feeling, one that they could share as their success on the battlefield continued. No doubt people would be hurt and there was plainly damage to the city, but he enjoyed the little successes that he and Sephiroth contributed to this effort. It was a sign of them working together.

He lifted a hand to his mouth and pretended to hiccup again. He flicked blood from the Masamune and dodged to the side as a small Kishin Egg tried a passing slash at him. Twisting, he caught the creature's leg as it continued to bound away, but he made no effort to pursue either. Someone else would catch it.

'Of course, I have! Would you expect anything different from me? Fighting through adversity, that's what I'm all about,' he commented, throwing just enough arrogance into his tone to cover his rising nausea. 'I refuse to lose this bet we made. You'll cook me something nice.'

The show of arrogance didn't go unnoticed, and had they not been resonating, Sephiroth may have believed the attempt to cover up the nausea Cloud felt. That wasn't the case, however, and the ex-General could feel the reaction through their connection even if he didn't make any mention of it.

'I wouldn't expect anything different, no,' he murmured before Cloud's refusal made itself known. Inwardly snorting at the thought, Sephiroth didn't allow his mind to remain distracted for too long. 'We will see soon enough if you can win this bet, Cloud.'

It was a good thing that his partner didn't feel the need to mention when he was bluffing and using gusto. He needed his moment to cover up, of course, and Sephiroth was surprisingly tolerant of his attempts. He was well-aware that the silver-haired man could tell he was nauseous and that he struggled through both illness and fatigue.

He stepped over the flailing injured body of a small Kishin Egg, ending it quickly before it could regenerate back to health. 'I can. I know I can, so you better be prepared. Oh and you can't eat cupcakes for dinner, just so you know.'

Sephiroth knew that if they kept their mind focused on the battle, that their feelings of exhaustion and weariness would be far easier to ignore. So that was what he did as Cloud put an end to the Kishin Egg at their feet.

'I may not have much experience with most things, but I know well that they are far from considered as a proper meal,' he deadpanned in response. Sephiroth may have lacked with experience in anything connected to everyday life, but he had seen the meals that ShinRa had offered during his period of being their General.

The street was mainly cleared, but he had no doubt that more would arrive soon. He shifted off to walk down the street and look down alleys and side-streets to see if anyone was in need of help. So far, people were fighting well, and there was no need to get involved. So he began to patrol the area for new Kishin Eggs.

'Oh and not eating isn't a proper meal either, just so you know that too.' That was just a pointed barb at the way that Sephiroth didn't eat, but that would change. He demanded it. He just needed to get through this battle and then he could force Sephiroth to cook him something nice when he was rested up again. 'Have you cooked a meal before?'

With that Kishin Egg dealt with, it gave them a moment of respite from battle. He wasn't certain if that was a good or bad concept, but there was little that they could do about it as they made their way through the city streets.

Sephiroth lightly snorted again at the pointed barb, but didn't dignify it with a response. There was little he could say in his defence, and knew well that Cloud wouldn't allow for whatever he said to slide by.

'There has been no need to,' he confessed. Sephiroth saw little point in denying it, as he didn't feel that it was a weakness to be hidden.
