[Open][Inner City Residential District][Whole time - and into aftermath?] spandexisyouth May 28 2011, 03:12:31 UTC
Since the warning had gone out Gai was doing the best job he could making sure the district was secure. There was a lot to do, and he made mental notes the entire time on what would need to be prepared and worked on in the future, the things that they didn't have time to secure at the moment.

While he was out on his own, he figured his partial Weapon form would keep him safe enough against Kishin until he ran into Kakashi. He could also team up if someone resonated with him and they needed it. When the attack hit he was still alone, but he had every confidence in being able to handle things, just like he had every confidence in pretty much everything he did.

Kakashi had somehow misplaced that communication device while he was out, so by the time he got the notice, it was already fairly clear what was going on, judging by the chaos in the city. He guessed that's what he got for heading out late to pick up a new book from the bookstore.

Cutting his way through the streets and alleyways to where he could expect to find Gai, he was sort of envious of Gai's partial form right now. As good as his non-Gai weapons were, they were just regular weapons and hardly could do much if he ran into a Kishin and got stuck having to fight. being defenseless was not a position Kakashi normally found himself in and he did not like it.

He caught up with Gai near the residential district, having only encountered one brief tangle en route. "So what did I miss?" he asked. "Heard anything from our teams or the Kazekage?"

Just setting this a little later since Gai won't leave Kakashi once they're together spandexisyouth May 28 2011, 07:25:37 UTC
Gai had worked with a few people by now, dealing with different Kishin who had already broken into the city, but it was a relief to see his partner. It wasn't to say that the others weren't capable; they were. He simply trusted Kakashi more than anyone else.

Shaking his head, Gai smiled anyway. "I have not heard from any of the others. I am sure they are all right, because they are our students! They know what they are doing!" He dusted himself off, noting what areas ached just a bit. There were at least a few spots where he would have magnificent bruises the next day, as well as a few deeper scrapes on his left arm from him taking partial form.

"I am glad to see you, my Rival! You did not have too much trouble without me, I hope?"

Makes sense. grab_my_bells May 28 2011, 07:45:52 UTC
While Kakashi figured he could probably use another weapon if necessary, he wasn't going to go into battle with a weapon he was unfamiliar with. Gai was his best bet for taking on the Kishin; they worked ( ... )

It wouldn't stop Gai from worrying about his students either, but he chose to hope and trust in them. If he heard something over the network about them being in distress he would want to rush to their aid. For now, though, it was time to take on the duties assigned to them.

Seeing the look-over Gai gave Kakashi a double thumbs-up. "Fear not! I am in splendid shape! And it is not like my shape matters as much for this sort of fighting! We will do well together!"

He didn't expect a lot in the way of words from Kakashi. His Meister had never been one for talking much. "Yes. We shall." Gai's smile didn't fade as he reached out and took Kakashi's hand, holding it for the briefest of moments before transforming into the kusarigama. Now was not the time for thinking about anything in regard to hand-holding, however, so Gai focused on their surroundings and the welcome feeling of strong resonance with his Rival.

He raised a brow and wisely kept his mouth shut on the subject of Gai's shape. If they got into any discussion along those lines now, it would never end. That kind of topic was best left to safer situations when they could afford endless distraction and ...whatever other thoughts and actions such a comment became (Kakashi was still getting used to those comments becoming anything more at all).

Kakashi inhaled deeply, shutting his eyes for just the briefest of moments and focused on keeping the resonance strong. It was still the oddest and most comforting of feelings Kakashi had ever had the privilege to share with another human being.

"Keep your ...eyes open," he said, scanning the area and moving carefully to a better vantage point. Or however this works for you. "I didn't see any in the immediate area on my approach, but..." Sometimes he wondered if these kinds of incidents happened intentionally, maybe to remind them to fight this war, to bring the war to them.

He would have fun arguing that he was completely fit later. Kakashi was right that they needed to avoid distraction on the field. There were Kishin in the city and people to protect, as well as people to assist. Gai relaxed in the warmth of being connected with Kakashi, letting it ease away any stress he'd been feeling about dealing with things on his own.

I am. If there was a better term, Gai didn't know it. Eyes open would do. We may need to head more toward the outer ring. They are invading from outside. Keep an eye out for anyone who needs assistance; if the Kishin are after souls they would go after the weakest.

There wasn't much else for Gai to do as they walked except watch and try to offer advice. Sure, Kakashi already knew all of those things, but it was extremely hard to sit there in silence, not able to move, basically just watching and holding Kakashi's hand.

He nodded. "I know." Normally they would be competing for kills or strikes or who could spot the enemy first. Kakashi knew it had to be torture for Gai to sit there and do nothing and, as usual with their time as Meister and Weapon, he really didn't know what to do to help that situation. Even in waiting, Gai usually found a way to remain entertained, doing pushups or something. "But go ahead and keep talking."

It was familiar, at least, even if it was slightly distracting. Gai's usual energy could be focused to conversation since a challenge was out of the question in this state. Or was it?

"How many do you think we can take down tonight, hm?" he asked. Two? Maybe three. So it wasn't competition, but maybe it would be enough to keep Gai excited. Moving swiftly, he crossed areas of the residential sector, heading towards the direction of the city limits. There were signs of battle everywhere.

He was glad, and a little bit surprised, that Kakashi was fine with him talking. Sometimes Gai knew he annoyed Kakashi with talking so much, but there was little to nothing he could do aside from talk and watch now. Thank you!

The change in Kakashi's mood to something a little challenging was exciting. If Gai could smile in weapon-form he now would. As it was, he would just be happy with the new topic and the permission to jabber away while keeping a lookout.

I am sure that we can handle a few! Several! Maybe many! We can defend the city and take on anything! We are both fully trained and capable! ...Have you eaten well today? That may impact how many we can defeat. Before he could launch into a lecture on the benefits of eating healthy Gai noticed a flicker of motion off to the side. Coming from the left. Medium-sized.

You would anyway, he thought as Gai thanked him. But there was a certain sort of fondness to that thought.

"Several? Isn't that a little extreme?" There was a hint of a groan in Kakashi's tone. Gai was overdoing it, just a little. He was extremely glad for the distraction of an incoming Kishin; he didn't want to tell Gai that he hadn't exactly eaten much of anything all day. That wouldn't go over well. "I see it."

He moved to intercept it and threw the chain to wrap around the Kishin, immobilizing it and halting any escape or immediate attack. Kakashi moved in closer now to make the attack with the blade, choking up on the chain to knock the creature off balance.

He was still taken aback every time Kakashi's feelings turned gentle or soft. For so many years he'd hidden everything, content in the knowledge that if he expressed any sort of interest he would end the Rivalry they already had and wind up isolating and hurting Kakashi.

The statement didn't line up with what Gai had felt from Kakashi, but that was only to be expected. We are defending the city! We must do our part as highly trained shinobi!

Gai did what he could to assist with the throw. Kakashi didn't really need it any more, he'd gotten very good, but it was still better to feel as if he could stabilize himself just a little. He felt as if they were maybe moving a little better and faster than usual, but wasn't sure. Need to work on discovering your Meister ability. It was a 'quiet' thought directed at Kakashi, something to be heard and only commented on if Kakashi felt it wasn't too distracting ( ... )

No worries! spandexisyouth May 30 2011, 08:32:50 UTC
He looked over at the sound of his name. "Auron! It is good to see you out here! You are faring well?" Gai tilted his head, trying to remember which type Auron was. Coming up with no answer, he decided to ask. "Are you Weapon or Meister?"

Hee, I bet. spandexisyouth May 31 2011, 20:18:33 UTC
"It is not wrong, so much as what has happened. He and I were not together when the announcement went out, and I have been trying to secure the district instead of find him. But yes, I am without my Meister at this time." Gai considered the other man for a moment. He seemed friendly, intelligent, and capable. That should mean they could at least work together, right? While a little worried about burning someone else's hands, Gai figured that he and Auron might be all right enough to risk it.

"Would you mind trying to see if we could work together for a time? I believe they are coming and I am not sure that I have time to find Kakashi." Finding people would be so much easier with chakra. Or with Neji.
