Characters: OPEN to new arrivals and NPCS. Where: En route to Casualty Communal Rating: Gen Time: January 9 onwards [forward dated] Description: Whoa, it’s been a while!
She didn't have to wait long. In three long strides he caught up and was set to follow along, turning the key chain in his hands. 3-E was engraved on the back. Fair enough.
"Death City, Deathbucks, Creeping Crypt, Mortician's Touch, Death's Best Friend... noticin' a trend. If I'm sleepin' in a damn coffin, I quit."
He went quiet with that. Lord Shinigami... he remembered he was referred to as 'the late', and a new one took his place. He wondered just what these Witches were like to actually take out Death himself. They were no strangers to meeting gods anymore, thanks to Ameno-sagiri, but all they managed to do was drive him off.
Kanji had a pretty good feeling the Witches weren't the pointy-hatted, green-skinned, wart-nosed kind either. Thinking on it now, did...?
"So, what about the other spook types? Vampires, ghosts, werewolves...?"
Quite awkward, not to mention the massive headache he might develop when he learns about BREW snatching guests from differing timelines on top of everything else. Naoto spoke a term he heard once during the tour, about going on missions and defeating... eggs? Part of him wished he hadn't spaced out in most of the Q&A sessions, though could you blame his still being a little overwhelmed with the overall concept?
"...And the Missions on some board are for people to go out and beat 'em. Okay, I think I'm gettin' it a little."
She'll try to explain somehow. And no, she didn't blame him. Most people would be overwhelmed upon arrival to a strange place like this.
"Yes. Of course, there are other Missions such as Investigations and minor clean up assignments. The difference would be you're only being paid instead of collecting Kishin Eggs."
He supposed keeping them all in a place they could be monitored was an idea, but wouldn't destroying them on the spot be much more effective? How hard was it to break an egg anyway, even a shape-shifting one? Kanji supposed there would be more to it.
In the meantime, he was looking from building sign to building sign as they walked, seeking out the one he was looking for. Despite the weird names, a lot of these places seemed pretty cool, and he honestly couldn't wait to take a little time to peek into them.
"Not in that sense. Once a Kishin Egg is killed, Weapons, ah, eat their soul and report them."
Naoto was not looking at him. She was instead focusing on the buildings they were passing, noting the district they were currently in. Okay, they were getting closer, but how much more awkward would this conversation get before they reached the living quarters?
Funny, he didn't hear that part on the tour. So the Weapons had to not only figure out shifting into an entirely new form, but defeating monsters and eating their souls. Kanji looked back at her. She was a Weapon... so, did she...?
No. He wasn't going to ask. If he were a Weapon, he'd hate being asked the question, himself. Instead he shook his head, but was visibly agitated.
"That shit sounds dangerous! Why the hell weren't we told!?"
"Actually, we are informed. Of course, gauging your outburst, that's exactly why they save this information for training."
She adjusted her cap again, "Anyway, there's quite a history behind Weapons, but in order to obtain strength, we have to eat the souls of Kishin Eggs; ninety-nine souls to be exact and then one witch's soul." Naoto sighed.
"After that, we become Death Scythes, Weapons that the Shinigami can wield if need be. That's not all; we have a better chance against fighting a Kishin."
So the idea totally bothered her, but it was necessary to gain strength. Her Meister could use the experience as well.
As much as he didn't like the rather unsavory task, Naoto was right. Saving it for the training at least allowed any Weapon to get a little used to the changes before they had another heavy thing dumped in their laps, albeit regrettably so. He thought of a couple of people with him in the tour that morning. Most looked like tough cookies who could take up something like this no problem, but one or two just...
At a loss, Kanji sighed in exasperation. Witch souls, too!? Figures. Most others would change the subject, be content with that, but he had to know something. They gained power from eating souls, and become some kind of Super Weapon eventually, it seemed, but--
"'s not restricted to souls, though, right? If I made - I-I dunno - kitsune udon, could we both sit n' eat it?"
Did Naoto and either Yosuke or Souji at least get to keep their humanity...?
"We just gain strength from Kishin Souls, not sustenance, Kanji-kun. It's still necessary for us to perform basic daily routines to stay healthy."
She wasn't even sure why he thought that. Still... she supposed her explanation could give someone the impression that Weapons only ate souls to live. Odd that he was being specific with kitsune udon.
He wasn't exactly sure why he was specific, either. He'd chalk it up to being a little hungry. ...Or something. His hands went back into his pockets, and he looked to the side. He appeared to be placated, at least, as he resumed his stroll deep in thought.
It wasn't too much longer, awkwardness aside, before a corner was turned and there was the first sign... Reaper Residences? No, that wasn't it. Looked like the right area, though.
Kanji had fallen strangely silent and she glanced at him from the corner of her eye. This reminded her of the first time they walked together, back when she had suspected him of possibly being a victim in the murder cases. Naoto had bluntly called him an odd person, but her point remained valid; he acted peculiar around her. What exactly went on in his mind?
Pulled from his thoughts, he quickly recalled what his activities were in the last twelve hours that involved food, hazy details be damned.
"Uhh, I ate before I left for the train station to see Souji-senpai off. Shit, I guess not." Well, he felt a little foolish. In his touring and wandering around, he'd been ignoring a basic need. This was pretty unlike him, to say the least.
"I'm gonna guess the cash in my pocket's useless, too. One'a the guides said everything's covered, though... that sound about right?"

"No, you're not. The beds are standard. The Death theme is simply because of the Lord Shinigami."

"Depends. The Kishin Eggs can take those sort of forms, but if you mean real Vampires or real Werewolves, I haven't personally seen any."

Did she like kitsune udon?
...Why was he thinking about this?
