This was shaping into another very interesting day, and Gai was beginning to wonder if he really liked the month of January after all. But that was something he really didn't have time for thoughts of. Two cities were about to come under attack.

As Kakashi was still dealing with his injuries from their failed mission, though, Gai needed to find someone to go with. If they would go with him. At least this time he was better-equipped to not fail this Meister. In fact, he could protect them better than he'd protected anyone before. Considering who he could go with, Gai recalled speaking with Tassadar about missions, and the tall alien was a Meister!

Thinking of whom... Tassadar was around here, wasn't he? A few minutes later Gai had found Tassadar. Gai bowed his head. "Are you busy at this time?"

He had been busy working on the final touches to the generator before the call went out. Tassadar, however, had been unaware as he'd become prone to ignoring his communicator when he became absorbed in his work. It was only by chance that he had been leaving the Shibusen building when Gai had come running up towards him.

Something was undoubtedly wrong with the ninja. He didn't need his psionic abilities to determine that, but as of yet he hadn't heard the news of the invasions.

'En Taro Adun, Maito Gai,' Tassadar greeted as he came to a stop in front of the bowing man. 'No, I have just taken a momentary break from my work. You are in need of something?'

"Good morning, Tassadar." Ah, just a small break... but Gai could ask anyway. A 'no' wouldn't hurt. "There is a new mission on the board, a more-urgent one. There are two towns about to come under attack. My Meister is still injured from our last mission, and I believe we spoke about one day trying. If you are busy, though, I will understand! ...And I will not fail this one. I have learned more about my ability."

Doubt was bad, and Gai was relentlessly squishing down the doubts he had in himself after his last mission. He could do this.

He hadn't heard anything about a mission, but the moment Gai mentioned it, his eyes widened in surprise. While he had been busy working on finishing the generator, the templar could not ignore the call of the innocents. The battlefield was where he belonged even in this world. Yet he had never truly partnered up with another Weapon since his arrival here, but he could not ignore the urgency of this mission either. If he searched for Nataku now, who knew how many innocents would lose their lives?

'I am never too busy,' Tassadar said as his calm blue eyes flashed a bright yellow. 'We must leave at once!' The templar firmly stated. His attention was already focusing on getting to the mirror, and with that, he gave Gai an expected look before he began to run towards the mirror. While humans were fast, they were no comparison to a protoss at full speed. Fortunately for Gai, however, Tassadar's stride was hindered by the tight space of the hallways.

Now that was the reply Gai was hoping for! It was reassuring to have someone else concerned about saving lives, and Gai took off behind Tassadar. Even though he ran every day, it was a bit of a challenge to keep up even in the hallways, and Gai resolved to work even more on speed.

"Yellow... is excitement? Just positive? Or negative too?" One day he'd be better at reading all of the people in the city, alien and human alike. They reached the mirror in record time and Gai didn't hesitate to leap through.

The scene was one of chaos when they arrived, Kishin already trying to break through the barricade. They didn't have time to waste. Gai held out his hand to Tassadar, already starting to transform into his scythe-and-chain form. His focus promptly went to the area around them. 'There are two directly ahead of us. One to the right is getting close to breaking through.'

Tassadar moved swiftly through the halls despite his size. Entirely aware of the young human in his wake, he caught sight of the mirror up ahead as he answered Gai's question. 'Emotion or power draws out such a colour,' Tassadar admitted as he all-but-ran through the mirror to the other side.

The sight that greeted him reminded him largely of New Gettysburg as he sighted the humans struggling for their lives. His large hand reached out to take Gai's Weapon form in his hold, and within moments he was following the direction.

Tassadar didn't miss the shape Gai's Weapon form took, and while it differed from the psi-blades his people used, it was similar enough that he wielded it as if it was a natural part of his body. Moving swiftly, Tassadar set his sights on the two in front of them. Taking the one to the left first, the templar leapt through the air to clear the remaining distance between them. Bringing the kusarigama swiftly down, the bladed edge bit into the shoulder and chest of the first Kishin Egg.

So blue was calm, then. Gai filed that away mentally. As Tassadar moved, Gai concentrated on speed as Spirit had told him. Resonance with someone other than Kakashi was always a little different, but thankfully Gai didn't have to work at this bond. Tassadar was focused on the battle and that made them meld. As Gai attempted to cycle their wavelengths at a greater speed, Tassadar should feel his already-impressive swiftness improve.

Gai felt some satisfaction as his blade cut into the Kishin. The more Kishin that died, the more civilians would survive. 'Watch the one on the left.' Instead of going for Tassadar and Gai, it had decided to attack easier prey, one of the men who was frantically trying to reload his gun. This was when Gai felt a little trapped in his form, but he had faith in Tassadar.

The Kishin Egg he'd attacked howled moments before it disappeared to leave the red soul behind, but Tassadar's attention remained on the fight occurring around them instead. Hearing Gai's warning, he leapt up and away from the Kishin Egg to his right. That one would have to wait as there were more pressing matters to attend to.

His large feet landed a fair distance away, and he felt his movements far swifter than moments before. Was that part of Gai's Weapon ability? There was little time to ponder as such as he began to spin the chain linked to Gai's Weapon form before hurling it towards the Kishin Egg attacking one of the humans.

'There are far too many Kishin Eggs here for my sense of smell to correctly pinpoint every one,' the templar admitted as he watched the heavy end of the chain crash into the side of the Kishin's head. While it wouldn't kill the beast, it would at least draw its attention.

Eating could wait. What was more important than getting stronger was protecting those who could not protect himself. This was what Gai was made for, and the familiarity of desperate fighting was strangely welcome. They washed over him, the feelings of duty and loyalty and protecting.

Gai had begun figuring out the finer points of his ability in training and it was entirely about speed. Speeding up his Meister, speeding up resonance, and, hopefully when he got the knack of it, speeding up so much that he took the injuries for his Meister. He'd managed it once. He wanted to keep managing it.

'I did not even know you could smell them. I miss sensing what is around me as I did back home, but at least in Weapon form I can see all around us.' He helped with the chain, trying to make sure he flew true and fast. 'You can also use the weighted chain to wrap around a target, drag them into range of the blade if you'd like.] Not many had used a kusarigama before, but Tassadar seemed to know what he was doing.

'I think this one is... angered.' ( ... )

'My people's sense of smell is far more advance than that of humans,' Tassadar offered before listening to the words that Gai spoke. He gave a single nod to show that he'd acknowledged the advice. There was little time now to respond though as the kishin egg he'd hit came rampaging back in.

The wound it had sustained was already healing, but that was of no surprise. He had witnessed them healing rapidly from far more damaging wounds.

'An angered kishin egg is nothing in comparison to what I've faced in the past,' Tassadar said before he began charging in towards his target. He put Gai's weapon form to test, and without hesitation, the templar whipped out the chain to attempt wrapping it around the kishin egg. While it didn't entangle his entire opponent, the chain ensnared the creature's leg.

Tassadar yanked back with the weapon to knock the beast down, and as he leapt in, the templar struck out with the blade towards the kishin egg.

It was another interesting difference between the races. Gai liked the differences as much as he liked the similarities; even just knowing there was so much variation filled his heart with joy. The world was full of learning and spring, and Gai wanted to learn all he could.

'Oh?' Gai was interested to learn more about Tassadar, but he didn't want to talk too much. He didn't know how well Tassadar was able to focus in combat. Some could talk a lot while fighting, like Gai, and others preferred to fight in silence.

He couldn't do much in weapon form, but Gai worked to make himself stay around the Kishin and not slip. He wasn't even sure it made a difference. It was just that he had to try, because he often felt as if he wasn't doing enough. The Kishin thrashed on the ground, struggling to find its feet again, but didn't make it before the blade came down, piercing into the Kishin. It was always strange, feeling as if he'd plunged a hand into something else. 'Good.' There was satisfaction in defeating that which had defeated him

'We smell through our skin not through the noses that humans and many other animals have,' Tassadar explained as he finished off the enemy Gai's chain was wrapped around. Pulling it back in towards him, the templar was already off and ready to attack the next. There were still many other kishin eggs to battle.

'Oh! ...So does that mean you have a very strong sense of smell, if all of your skin takes it in? Or is it lessened because you wear clothing? And please let me know if I am asking too many questions!'

Gai scanned the area. There were a great many enemies, but off to the right the Kishin were breaking through.

'There! To the right! We must back them up!' He focused again on speed and the wavelenths of their resonance. Maybe it was helping, maybe not, he couldn't tell, but he was still going to try.

'Our sense of smell is acute enough to navigate without hindrance during the darkest hour of the night - even when dressed in all of our armour,' Tassadar offered as he followed Gai's suggestion over to the right. He saw the Kishin Egg in question, and with his eyes narrowing, the templar began dashing over towards it.

You have a thing for people with special senses of smell, don't you... spandexisyouth January 12 2012, 10:09:16 UTC
'Oh.' And again, like with Sohki, Gai wondered if that meant he smelled. But that wasn't a thought for now. Right now Gai needed to focus on aiding his Meister. The Kishin, noticing their approach, stopped attacking the wall to charge at them in return.

'There is something about its tail. It was lashing it around, but that looks almost... scorpion like?' In other words, it might be poisonous, but as they were in in a desert Gai had a feeling Tassadar would know what that meant. ...And if not, it was still a warning.

Haha! I guess so 8D /did not realise that at all! aiursfavoredson January 14 2012, 13:46:34 UTC
He sensed the confused thoughts weighing on Gai's mind, but was too focused on their incoming enemy to question it. From what he understood of the man, the ninja would voice his curiosity if he ever wanted an answer, and it was a trait that the templar approved on.

Nodding his head at the warning, Tassadar darted out to the side when the Kishin Egg attempted jab him with the sharp tip of its tail. All of his years on the battlefield served him well in that moment, and as the beast was recovering from the strike, the templar leapt in from the side to attack the exposed Kishin Egg.
