It will soon have been near half a year since that hell which we endured in August, wouldn't it? I shudder to think of what might become of all of our new residents if something similar might happen now, particularly given the weather. Snowfall with no end in sight for days now... how truly unfortunate the souls arriving now must be.

There were a great many problems, to be precise.

I like books. It'd be a nice challenge to try writing. I don't know how well it would go, but I could be proud of my effort.

As would I be proud to read the work of an aspiring author.

A writing contest ...? Hmm, well, there certainly isn't very much else to do here, is there? I think there could be plenty of entries!

[Yes, she is going for voice, even though she's in the house. She's not about to hunt you down for the hell of it, man, get a smaller house first.]

[But large houses are the best thing ever, just ask every nobleman in London. You Orientals have no taste. No taste at all.]

I would not be so sure. There is, after all, quite a difference between being bored and making steps to cure that boredom.

[Large houses are pointless if they aren't used to entertain guests often or for family and friends to stay the night in. You Westerns have no sense. No sense at all.]

Perhaps, but you never know, right? There could be plenty of writers stuck in this little village for all we know! Maybe it will even inspire a few to start writing if some sort of contest were to come about! Ahh, stories and ideas and theories from entirely different worlds ... don't you see how interesting that could be?

With that in mind, it might be interesting to hear some the stories you might spin yourself, Ms. Miyo.

My husband, Alan, is actually quite the accomplished writer back home. [should she be mentioning him? probably not. Alan undoubtedly would have nothing to do with Ciel's writing contest, but she did have several of his Alex Casey books on hand and..] I could let you borrow his Alex Casey series if you're interested? It's an action-thriller series that was really quite the hit back home.

Ah, truly? A photographer and a wordsmith... quite the pair, if you do not mind me saying so, Ms. Wake. [A beat.] And I confess, I am curious to see what would be in this series.

[his words earn a warm and quiet chuckle on her end] The series is about a New York City detective by the name of Alex Casey as he solves some rather intricate crimes. In all honesty, the series is a little dark [read: very dark, and she's not sure if Ciel should read it], but I could bring you the first book if you'd like to give it a try.

I would enjoy that, Ms. Wake and if you would be so kind I would certainly appreciate the gesture.

Yes. Perhaps a bit... shaky, as a piece, but an enjoyable work overall, centering around a detective.

Without giving away overly much, the case revolved around a murder in which there is a great deal of blood on the floor, albeit no wound on the body. Similarly, on the wall, written in blood, is [And these are sounded out by letters] "R-A-C-H-E."
