PART V; Always

“What the fuck did you do to Yoona, Kyuhyun-ah?”
Sooyoung’s voice is scathing and her dark eyes are blazing with anger but all Kyuhyun can think of how she still makes him shiver when she says his name.
They had just finished three hours of recording a duet for Super Junior’s new mini-album. Sooyoung had coldly ignored him for most of the morning, only mumbling an emotionless ‘Kyuhyun-sshi’ at the beginning of the session before turning towards the lyrics. When they had finished and left the recording studio, Sooyoung had pulled him into an empty meeting room and promptly punched him in the stomach.
Kyuhyun clutches his abdomen, doubling over in pain. Leave it to him to fall for the only girl that could take out Kangin and Shindong in a single tackle.
Sooyoung glares fiercely at him.
“Well? What do you have to say for yourself? I had the decency to set you up with everyone’s ideal girl and after a couple of weeks of playing around with Yoona you leave her in tears!”
“I didn’t mean to hurt her” Kyuhyun murmurs quietly, a sinking weight of guilt settling on top of the pain in his stomach.
Sooyoung scoffs, her eyes hard.
“Yoona wouldn’t leave her room for two days! Yuri said she was sobbing for hours and broke all her Super Junior CDs! Taeyeon had to make up some excuse that she was down swine flu! I understand that not all relationships work, but you didn’t have to crush her!” she cries out.
“You don’t understand” Kyuhyun mutters, looking away.
Sooyoung gives him a withering look, before sighing.
“Yoona really liked you, Kyu-pie” she starts softly, as if explaining to a small child. “You could’ve let her down gently. I have no idea what you did, but you broke her heart”
Kyuhyun closes his eyes, remembering Yoona’s red-rimmed doe eyes.
“I said I was sorry, Sooyoung-ah. What else do you want me to do?”
“I want you to fix it”
He looks at her like she’s grown another head. Everyone wants something from him, whether it be help with vocals or some stupid blind date, but nobody wants him. Kyuhyun’s done everything everyone’s wanted him to, but he’s never really done what he’s wanted to.
“Fix it?” he spits out incredulously. “You have no idea what happened between us! Nothing I do will ever make up for it, and quite frankly, all I want to do is just forget about it”
Sooyoung looks exasperated.
“What on earth did you do that was so bad?” she scoffs. “Backhand her into a mirror? Call out another girl’s name when you were making out with her?” she trails off when the intensity in Kyuhyun’s eyes fades and his hands fall limply by his side.
Sooyoung is so shocked she stumbles backwards.
“W-what?” she stammers in disbelief, when the question she really wants to ask is who?
Kyuhyun chooses to stare stonily at the floor instead of responding. Sooyoung tries to speak, but all she can think about is who has captured Kyuhyun’s attention so much that he’d reject Yoona.
(For some inexplicable reason, Sooyoung already hates the girl. She reasons it’s because this girl was the cause of Yoona’s heartache, not because of anything else.)
“But - how could you - why didn’t you ever tell - does Sungmin know - who is she?” Sooyoung splutters, slowly reddening.
Kyuhyun shrugs, a sad smile playing on his lips.
“It doesn’t matter. I can’t have her anyway” he murmurs, so defeated and miserable that Sooyoung hates the girl even more for not choosing Kyuhyun.
“Oh Kyuhyun…” she reaches out to touch him, but he flinches away, as if he’s teetering on the edge and he doesn’t want her to get pulled over with him.
“Don’t” he hisses, his eyes blazing. “You don’t understand”
Sooyoung throws her hands up in the air in frustration.
“Then make me understand! Why won’t you just tell me, Kyu? We’ve been friends for two years, why can’t you trust me? Who’s this girl that has you lying and cheating and keeping secrets from -“ she’s cut off when Kyuhyun slams her against a wall and pins her between his legs.
“It’s you. It’s been you for past two years! Fuck, it’s always been you!”
He’s fallen, over the edge of unspoken words and unanswered questions and into the reality of wanting something that was never his in the first place. His words slice through the air like a knife to the heart and Kyuhyun knows he’s just fucked up the scene.
Looks like he wasn’t cut out to be an actor after all.
Sooyoung looks at him with those bright, bright eyes of hers and Kyuhyun thinks if he’s screwed up the shoot, he might as well fuck the movie.
Sooyoung barely has time to respond (that’s impossible; what are you talking about; what about Sungmin; I love you too) before his lips are on hers, hard and bruising and wanting and needing and she doesn’t understand why it feels so good.
It’s not until her hands are threaded into his impossibly soft hair that Sooyoung realizes she’s actually kissing back.
She gasps, pulling away. Kyuhyun’s eyes are dark and heady (Sungmin’s never looked at her like that) and his lips are swollen but his hands aren’t on her hips anymore and he’s slowly backing away from her, as if realising what had just happened.
There are so many words lingering in the air between them, but Sooyoung can’t even pick one out (I love you I love you I love you).
“I’m sorry” his voice is hoarse and it breaks (like what’s left of their hearts) and before she can say anything, he leaves in a flurry of guilt and regret.
Sooyoung slides down the wall she was just pinned up against, trembling. A terrible ache overwhelms and all she can see is the way Kyuhyun first smiles at her when SNSD are being introduced to their Super Junior sunbaes.
(She realizes it was a soft, I-think-I-might-just-fallen-in-love-with-you smile.)
