As far as uplifting music, I've a couple of recommends. For one, the band October Project really does it for me. Check out the self-titled first album (from the early 90's) or Falling Farther In. Something about Mary Fahl's voice is very soothing.

Another band that usually brings a smile to my face is The Lightning Seeds. Other recommends: Painted Orange (very Depeche-Mode'y type of sound), Platform One (http://www.platform-one.com).

I like folk music. No one seems to listen to folk music, but no one ever takes the time to listen to the lyrics. I like oldies too : P
Hey, thats, I'm happy for you.

I'm not exactly familiar with folks music. I use to listen to oldies when I would go for tutoring in highschool. My tutor was in a band that covered oldies songs and we'd listen to them during the lessons.

The lyrics aren't generally positive, but The Smiths always bring a smile to my face.

Good beats or music with a groove element can be nice too. And as for The Smiths. I haven't listened to them. I'll check them out sometime :]
