Did you know that if you break a fluorescent light bulb, you're not supposed to vacuum up the little bits of broken glass? That's because they're coated with mercury, and vacuuming up the pieces will turn your vacuum cleaner into a hazardous waste dispenser for the rest of its life ( Read more... )

I never knew that! I wonder if there's a similar problem with halogen bulbs.

Yeah, I knew that. You also have to make damn sure that you don't cut yourself with the glass.

This reminds me of a video I saw on YouTube.

A tween faces opposite his friend while he shatters a fluorescent light bulb on his back. The pieces of glass penetrate his skin causing him to drip blood in several dozen areas.

I wonder the surprise he felt when he learned the nature of his mistake.

I could have turned the lights off because I was in session with a client, or, more likely, I wasn't in the office (my hours are irregular because I don't typically have walk-in clients; everybody meets me by appointment). If you want to drop by, let me know what date/time and I'll make sure I'm there. Next week, I'm hosting a bunch of seminars for a speaker from out of town, so I'll be in the office for sure, but I don't know when the breaks will be.
