Looking for opinions on a logo

So I wanted to get some opinions on a few logotypes I put together for my novel. Some have only minor differences (E & F are mainly changes in the "G" and lower-case letter height). I'll do some texture and embossing techniques later, but I wanted to get some feedback to narrow down the list ( Read more... )

What are some of the key themes you want the audience to come expecting from the novel? Just on first glance, total gut response, A&B would imply heavy romance or social interactions, D would make me think of a more action-heavy, with C lightly less so. E&F, harder to describe, with the tails on the M and the split tops on the d's and t's....it feels far more "epic", like Bab5 or Wheel of Fire in a Steam Punk - that this story is going to go far beyond just the father's lab. Obviously this is what I'd be bringing too the story from the logo, rather than what the content actually is - but it probably matters if you want to draw in a certain type of reader interest or want to emphasize a certain kind of thing.

BTW for artistic and "coolness" factors I like E&F best with F better because the G is less funky. Then again that's probably because A-D look too "westerny" to me which, of course, might be the point. =)

For a few of the reasons noted by Tim C. above I'm leaning towards E&F as well. Though, for me, E would be more the one I would go with (were it me writing this) as I've not really ever seen a G with frillies at the end of the upper curve instead of the lower curve...

But...that's me and my fontstyle-untrained eye...

The phrase "gilding steam" is my idiom for "flights of fancy", an overactive imagination, or even plain ol' dawdling. In this instance, it has to do with the steamtech that Dad (someone who would have been best buds with CCaractacus Potts) left notes about. Most people involved believe his notebook was just doodles and fanciful imaginings - Gilded Steam, as it were ( ... )

I was a total fan of A & E myself. I thought of A because it made me think of gold leafing, and I love the curly parts in the Steam. Also in E, I really loved the m & d's.

I'd love to read the book too.

Hokay, Personally I like B ... cause it's purdy and much easier to read than A. However, it doesn't seem to fit the overall mood of the novel. From the humor description I would go with D (to be picky I would also reduce the height of the lower case letters, it makes it easier to read). E and F remind me of something I would see at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion. I prefer the F. The angle at the top of the G is closer to the S so it flows better. Have you tried putting a tiny divot in the lower part of the G, like is on the flourish of the d's?
