OK, just in case you thought you were having a good time, Space...

Well, my 'Modern' drabble has been two-starred.

I give up.

Is not 4.25 good? I'm afraid I'll never understand the star system.

BUT! I gave it a 5-star and boosted it to 4.4 last I looked...

(((((hugs)))))

It's nothing to do with what the average is. It's the fact that someone voted it a 2, which is by anyone's standards a really bad rating, and yet didn't say what was wrong. This happens to every story I post now, and happens to other people as well. We're all pretty sure it's someone deliberately trying to lower the ratings.

I'm sorry, I might not be the best writer in the world and I doubt if anyone would list me as their favourite author, but I'm pretty confident my stuff doesn't deserve a '2' or '1' vote. Sorry if that sounds big headed.

I don't know what to do though, other than just stop posting at OSA.

why don't they just get rid of the whole star thing anyway. sounds like it's becoming a huge hassle and causing a lot of hurt feelings. my opinion, tho. Of course, out of the five drabbles i've posted only one has any kind of rating, and it's a 3-star. dunno the average. and only three have a review, all by Binka. No one else has commented, nor am I convinced anyone will. *hands Spacey a paddle* We'll go up this creek together... just don't lose the paddle. ;-)

No one deserves a '2' or and '1', least of all you! I love your stuff! It doesn't sounds big-headed either. I have you on my recommeded story list (two stories)!

Don't stop posting! OSA is about the only place I know of to read your stuff, since I don't go to SoA at all (reader only and I've got some issues with them anyway).

I dunno what to do to be honest. It just feels so lousy every time this happens, and I'm waiting for it every time I post. I just don't want to put myself up for that every time. I was already thinking of quitting posting my WIPs anyway.

I wish they'd get rid of the stars to be honest, but they're not going to change the whole site just because I'm upset. So best idea is just for me to stay away.

Nopes, you shan't. I saved my rating in case it would happen. It's back at the average 4.5(8).

Happy Xmas Space, cheer up mate! Dream about a naked Elrond under your tree.

Only thing under my tree at the moment is pine needles. Which is actually quite worrying, since it is an artificial tree...

Thanks though. Is appreciated greatly. That is actually a good idea and I might start doing that - review stories first and then leave a couple of days before I rate just to make sure. So if I review you but don't rate next time, that is what I'm doing. Following this plan.

I am trying to cheer up. Honest.

Well it is sad that we actually have come to this, but right now I am glad I did. I don't know how old your tree is, mine is 9 years old and after a while they are bount to loose needles, branches... ;)

I think I know what the One/Two Star Fairy's problem is....

Whenever I got bullied at school my Mum always used to say that it only happened because the bullies were jealous of me and I think the same is true at OSA. This person seems to be systematically down starring xome of the best writers on the site (and I'm including you in that catergory) so I think they just have an inferiority complex and are jealous of your talent so they need to do you down to make themselves feel better.

Please don't stop posting at OSA as it's the only fic site I'm a member of and I'd miss you :o( It was reading your fics that got me into fanfic in the first place and it would be a real shame to let something like this stop your writing.

I figured it is either someone who knows us (I have a sneaking suspicion they are either a reader or writer on the VV, since my VV one was voted very low as well a couple of times) or it's someone who goes looking for 5 star ratings, as one thing I noticed - it didn't happen when I reposted my Thranduil story (which I'd originally deleted because of the low star, when I was feeling really lousy). That one was never voted above a 4 for days, and it wasn't touched as far as I could see.

That's my theory anyway. The VV one might be a blip and just someone in there disliked my story, but it seems an awful coincidence.

As for stopping posting, I'm just getting fed up of it. I still have WIPs, and other than 'Bodysnatcher' which I can't decide whether to delete or not, I'm hoping to just slug on with those. Some people might not want me writing that AU story, but I have a load more ideas that still need to be worked into it, so I'm afraid they'll just have to lump it for a while.

The other day me and someone else were discussing it and discovered of the top 100 read fics, only nine of them had five stars. (Or something close to that - the other person was counting, not me) So to me it says that people see a popular story and vote it down. On one hand its encouraging that you don't have to have a five star fiction to be popular. On the other hand its troubling cause my favorite WIP is five stars now. That is stressful for me cause I am terrified someone will vote it down. It had a solid 5.0 average until the 5th person rated it like a 1 or 2 or something so it was knocked down. I was so sad. But now that its back up to five stars, I worry all of the time it will get voted down ( ... )

"I wish MOB read and reviewed me as much as she did Space. So far she only likes my VV story. ;0) But I love her anyway!"

Do I spot a subtle little hint here Al Darling?!?! :o)

I'm officially on my Christmas holidays as of now so once I've finished my long awaited VV chapter I'll be catching up on all my reading and reviewing. I've not been around enough to do it lately...
