still omicron, and thoughts on testing

On Sunday, after Marc took our one COVID home test and got a positive, he found a place testing on Sundays to get the kids tested. not a rapid test but at least a test. We thought maybe the kids gave this to us, since Josie was coughing last week for one day? So if that was true, they might be OVER it and could go back to school... just prove that ( Read more... )

I agree, our country is really ____ed up about not having tests available. I just don't get how bad they could be at this.
Poor you all. I hope by next week you can get negative tests for the kids at least. And then they are sending 4 tests to a household (if we ever get them). And that is not taking into accord how many people are in a household, jeez.

Well we do have inexpensive home tests here in Germany. But apparently with Omicron, they work only in 30% of cases. So yeah. PCR tests from now on only for healthcare people, everybody else has to get the lateral flow ones and those too aren't that easy to get reservations for right now. Germany has seriously botched the test things... first they let everybody open a test station who asked for it, no matter if qualified or not, then when it turned out that TONS of money went into dark holes without anything to show for, most of the centres were closed. Then they became not free any more so more closed (among which the one associated to the vaccine clinic where I work). Now there are much much too few capacities and people go to work infected because they can't prove they have covid. UGH. I am glad we have still a few cartons of the "good" lateral flow tests at work so we can test before starting and don't risk (or not A LOT) infecting those who come to get vaxxed ( ... )

yesterday?! That is a shining light of hope!

We did sign up on that site last week but I had no fantasies about actually getting them in any short amount of time.

yes, we just drove across the US in December (the airline crisis? was real!) and in the 5 days and almost 4000 miles we drove we found kits regularly. we even brought a trunkful back for friends.
