My roommates and I ate at Thai Rama tonight, which replaced Char's, on University just East of Rural. Char's was there forever and I know Thai Rama has at least one other location in the valley. Having been to Char's in the past and finding it decent but not understanding why it was held in such high regard, I was curious to see what Thai Rama had ( Read more... )

You should try larb gai, if you haven't yet, its a minced chicken salad type thing, and when done right, it is fucking hot as hell. Too hot for me, but my friends Scott and Beth swear by it.

LOL on the Short Circuit (and ftw for Tank Girl).

I'll look for that larb gai. Thanks.

And I just couldn't help it on either DVD since both were so cheap for an inpulse buy. I should've owned Tank Girl already, and Short Circuit just is so familiar to me and my youth.

oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved Char's...I think it may have been the first Thai food I ever ate, or maybe the first Thai food I ate in Arizona when I moved here in 1996. I used to go all the time when I was an ASU student. The last time I went there was with mobileschu actually when we were still discussing the possibility of him buying a house. This makes me sad. I hate it when locally run places go out of business, either because they get pushed out or because they just get tired of running the biz.

I know Char's was practically a Tempe landmark & I ate there a few times. Honestly though, I never thought that it was very remarkable.

It is sad to see long-standing business go, I agree.

Thai Rama is also local as far as I know. And you really should give it a try, it was excellent & the place looks really nice inside.

Hmmm spicy hot Thai is so freaking good! There's this great place on elliot and McKlintoc in the dollar theater area that has amazing food! You'd love it.

I used to work at the kinko's across the parking lot from Char's. Char was a character, and I think that had something to do with me liking it. I have a thing about the people who run a place. I go back if I like them. Is the Delhi Palace still there? They were great folks and had great food!

OMG, Tank GRRRRL. I fell in love with that movie. Has a lot to do with a woman taking charge and doing her own thing and depending upon herself to do what she needed. sistas are doin it fo demselves... Oh, and the music, clothes, Malcolm McDowell, the rippers, and Ice-T's ripper character's previous incarnation. Classic.
