Awesome God; human institutions, not so much

Easter, for me, isn't much about bunnies or peeps. It's about God and how freakin awesome it is that she (or he; whatever, it's not as if God is petty about gender) bothered to understand the human condition first-hand, every stinking, nasty part of it, including excruciating death ( Read more... )

Today I watched the news and saw that the scandal wasn't mentioned by the pope. Then the correspondent said that the Vatican is closing ranks, leaving those who need all the compassion to heal in the cold outside. And yet they are wondering why people turn away from their faith? Just astonishing!

Don't get me started on the Catholic church. :D Family history of leaving and/or getting excommunicated from them. According to them me and my sister are bastards because my parents were married by a Lutheran. So we went for Catholic lite (you know, Episcopalians) But then they wouldn't marry me and my husband because I wanted an outdoor wedding. (apparently God doesn't approve of the outdoors)

I still consider myself Episcopal but I just consider myself that from outside the physical church. I'm pretty sure God and Jesus understand. =0)

On an amusing note, the Christians around here often ask me if I've 'found Jesus'. After years of trying to explain that I was Christian even if I hadn't been 'saved' I stopped saying that. Now I simply shrug and said, "I never lost him in the first place."

Always shuts them up.

Sorry, Viv. This has really been bugging me as well. Now you've given me the opportunity/permission to vent. Please delete this comment if it's too over the top ( ... )

Regarding number four.

See what I mean?

They're everywhere and they're getting away with it because our legal system (at least the Canadian legal system) doesn't take this seriously enough.

yea, we're rather similar in your thoughts. Hubby was brought up Catholic and he dislikes a number of things in how the church has handled issues, especially since the Archdiocese here is the one that had the BIIIIIG abuse stuff going on (speaking of which, the Cardinal blamed for it is retiring so its all in the news here).

We've talked about finding a church for us (me being brought up Lutheran with a Lutheran mom and a Mormon dad, though not practicing) but its been a while since I've actively gone. I did some searching and going with a few friends but never felt inclined to the places of worship I saw. Hubby has becomed even more disinclined after doing some of his own soul searching and he doesn't think God would begrudge us salvation for being unhappy in certain houses named to worship Him, especially if many are so corrupt.
