Crazy allergy welts

Feb 06, 2006 22:18

When I was a lot younger, my brother and I were playing catch with an egg when I missed it and it broke all over my arm. A few minutes after I had cleaned it off, I noticed that the area that had come in contact with the raw egg was completely covered in large welts. Since then, I have steered clear of raw eggs for fear of a similar allergic ( Read more... )

Thats some pretty weird symptoms. If you are in fact allergic to the nuts, the allergic reaction should come at most half a day after you ingested them. This is because you would already have preformed antibodies in your circulation ready to release inflammatory factors to make that bump or those nasty welts. Are the welts in any specific location? Are there any other associated symptoms? How long does it take to go down? Describe the characteristics of the welt. I hope its not on your face cause that would probably mean you have lupus.

I have not kept very good track of exactly when the symptoms came in relation to what I ate and when. I did decide not to eat any nuts today and so far so good. I will hold off on them for the next few days and see if everything remains okay.

The welts are in seemingly random places, often on my thighs, arms, or stomach area. Essentially they seem to just be raises in the skin in the form of a swelling. Once I first notice them, I usually stop paying attention, but I would guess that they may go away in about 30-60 minutes. There are no other symptoms really. And no I don't think I have ever had any on my face, notwithstanding the knot in my throat. Diagnose me Kevin!

Richard can atest to the annoyance of welts and allergies, since he was living with me junior year when he got some sort of infection, I believe it was pink eye. They gave him penecilin, and he was allergic. He swelled up like a marshamllow, and had all sorts of crazy rashes all over his body. It seriously took him out of commission for more than a whole week. I think at one point before he got the antibiotics he said "what if I am allergic to penecilin?" I think my response was, "You lamer, no way are you allergic." Ops ( ... )

Haha! That is exactly what I would have said. Sorry to hear about that Rich.

Yeah I never really understood why I always got my full blown allergy response only during cross country practice/races. That doesn't really make any sense. Anyway, I thought about going to an allergist to find out what foods I am allergic to, but I decided to just stop eating nuts for the time being and see what happens.

You are allergic to apples? I have never heard that one before.
