Is anyone else frustrated by the fact that all of the Olympic coverage is using the local pronunciation of the city instead of the English translation? Last I checked we speak English in this country, and always refer to cities and countries by their English translations. Bah

I agree, it's just like I don't like Cuba being pronounced in the spanish pronunciation (i.e. coo-bah, as opposed to the english cue-ba).

This seems to mainly be done by stuck up Jr. High and highschool teachers. If you are going to do that, then call every spanish speaking country by its spanish name, call spain espana and cuba (coo-bah). Don't pick and choose and only pronounce certain places differently.

Just like hiroshima (hero-shee-ma vs. heh-row-shi-ma). Ok, hooray for you, you can screw up a Japanese name LESS. People that try to pronounce hiroshima in the japanese way don't call Japan by its japanese name ...so ... wtf

I say, either call all places by english name (preferred), or if you MUST, call all countries by what they call themselves ... don't pick and choose (i.e. torino italy, its not italy to an italian, it's Italia ... so why are they selectivley doing this

Exactly! That is all that I am asking. And after Sidd and Andy gave me such sass for being frustrated by the Torino usage, I now expect them both to say all cities and countries by their local names.
