softball glory

I really like playing baseball/softball and have always considered myself to be a fairly good player. What I am most proud of is my solid knowledge of the rules and my solid execution of the fundamentals. So when I learned that there was a company softball league this spring/summer, I was really excited about playing. My number one goal was just ( Read more... )

Dude, this story was awesome! Oh man, calling your homer, despite your joking intent, is seriously top-notch. I would have swooned on the spot.

Glad to hear you're doing well, I miss you Spaldo!

Too bad you weren't there. I would have loved to see you swoon after my home-run shot.

I don't think its luck man. When we've played softball a couple times you have displayed power that surprised me at the time. I think your weight training probably helped but you've always had those long arms that you can extend and generate some serious power. You've crushed a few really far as I recall. Also, I can't imagine the fielding percentage of the players in the company league to be that high and you are quite good at making contact. Pulling the ball on the ground will probably be a hit I'd imagine. Keep it up, I expect a monstrous 7 for 7 day with 6 homers and a double! ; )

Yes, the fielding is pretty lackluster, and certainly contributed to at least 2 of my hits so far. However, my three monster hits were all over the outfielders' heads, which I still think is quite surprising considering my general lack of strength. I guess you could argue that the fielders might have been playing too far in because they didn't know what they were doing, but they were more or less playing in the same spots all game, and none of my teammates were hitting similar towering shots over their heads.

Oh well, I guess I should just be thankful for my recent hitting prowess and not try and question it. Though I strongly doubt I will ever meet your expectations for a 7 for 7 game with six homers. Even the beastly Pete would have trouble with that one.

After your Babe Ruthesque performance, you will definitely be held to high expectations... so keep it up!

Speaking of softball, we should play on June 4th, when I am in the United States of America. I know you live in California, but that's just four hours away, and I bet you have 4 weeks vacation due to the liberal attitudes in your state.

Speaking of America, the US is doing this terrorist prisoner bit all wrong. What they should do is just put these clowns in max security federal prisons in the USA after they have been "interrogated" in the random countries that the USA maintains secret prisons.

Surely, guys in those jails will hold Islamic fundamentalists with similar regard as they do child molestors (that's my suspicion, at least.) Then, the guys that are serving 8x life sentences for triple homocide will have their fun.

How lucky. Just a few days ago I bought tickets to come home June 2nd-11th, so June 4th actually works perfect for me! Craziness.

Hah. That's awesome. I'll be in town the 4th to the 8th... but since the 4th is a Sunday, people probably won't be working so that would work out better.

That is something I would drive up for.

I consider myself to be a fairly good player in the sense that I know what I am doing and will be able to make decent contact with the ball every time up.

I am still unsure whether I am a good player in the sense that I can consistently hit power shots like I have of late. We'll see if I can convince myself over the course of the season.

You need to accept your own awesomeness. There is more than enough evidence already. Who cares what other people now expect, you should continue to demand this level of excellence from yourself for no other reason than because you are capable of achieving it.

And why does the count start 1-1? Just so the game doesn't take forever?

Though I certainly will be looking to continue my power surge, I still ultimately desire to only have a good time while playing. The home-run was just a awesome bonus.

I never figured you for a sports fan, but that is exactly why the count starts at 1-1. They try to finish a 7 inning game in one hour.

Baseball always appealed to me far more than softball but I probably would have played softball if you guys harassed me enough. But without harassment, apathy and laziness win. It is football that I have absolutely no interest in. Nor will I ever. I played baseball a lot in grade school; little league and all that.

Seeing as how many years its been I would probably suck nowadays though.

My sports of choice are soccer, racquetball, and skiing. But alas, those are not the ones that everyone else prefers. And skiing requires too much planning anyway.
