Part 39: http://spam-monster.livejournal.com/2938.html?thread=7750778#t7750778

Ghost Rat is all all shattered and sliced inside and it's hours before Thinks Ahead can even think of tending to Daniel's wound. He doesn't mind. He wraps his arm and waits, thumping his heels in time to Thinks Ahead's healing song. It's in the ritual language, soft and honeyed and tender, like a warm bath or the golden, slow time after making love. Dan blinks, surprised to see his own green magic coiling in the air above his head. It waves to rhythm, and coils around Ghost Rat as he watches, not quite sure just what the hell it's doing. It seems to be helping, though. He can feel Ghost Rat's wounds closing, and he's not ashamed when he weeps helplessly with relief ( ... )

Ghost Rat is not expecting to wake up, least of all to wake up warm, in not too much pain, and tucked into an akontet robe beside Daniel in a tent that smells like cooking instead of blood. He gingerly props himself up to look at his friend, relieved to see it much the same as before he went mad and tried to kill everyone. His memories are hazy, but shameful enough. He winces, hauling himself onto his side, and touching Daniel's face to make sure he's really there, stubble rasping his fingertips before they slide down to the reassuring pulse in his throat, pausing for a moment and then fanning out over his collar bones and down his broad shoulders to his arms. He can't seem to stop, fingertips hovering over Daniel's heart too lightly to wake him. He has to assume that Laurel is all right wherever they left her, since if he had hurt her Daniel probably wouldn’t have bothered to take him to a shaman. Everything hurts, but he's felt worse and there's a bubbling pot of something on the fire, and he is grateful ( ... )

Huzzah, another chapter - and such a wonderfully sensual one at that!

I love little moments like this, because for all of Ghost Rat's honest-to-gods ferocity, he's still so adorably innocent that it makes my teeth hurt in the best way. :3 Also very much loving Thinks Ahead's take on things, and looking forward to Daniel waking up (in more ways than one?)

Asmoleda screams when she catches sight of Sick Wolf, and relaxes only slightly when Laurel stands in her stirrups to hail him. The Hawks watch him with suspicion, but Aline doesn't mind anything Byron doesn't mind and he doesn't mind anything Laurel doesn't. So everyone sits up a little straighter and maybe makes sure their bows are only a snatch away, but hostilities don't actually open. He gives them all a look of magnificent distain, his brand standing out livid in the cold. He tells them that Ghost Rat and Daniel are safe with his wife, and to follow. Laurel rides up beside him to thank him again for her necklace, even if she hasn't had to use it yet. He smiles very slightly at that, one of the few she's ever seen, and she peels away to Asmoleda, who still looks worried.

"What's wrong?"

"He's a patricide!" She hissed. "That's probably the only reason he's on the plains anyway! I can't imagine what sort of woman would actually marry him ( ... )

I've been thinking about Asmoleda. She didn't happen to have grown up in the Genovese court, did she?

They were almost certainly a Hyperborean offshoot, possibly the result of some great-great-great-uncle twice removed of Daniel's marrying a Hyperborean lady. I'm sure she at least saw Kitty at court once or something.

Laurel has some idea of how the universe is shaped when you look at it from where the Plainsmen are standing, but almost all of Think Ahead's explanations are news to Asmoleda. She has heard of the shamans, and how all of them are to some extent androgynous or mixed, but it's quite another thing to be speaking to a(n actually rather attractive) man in a dress. Made out of hides, yet, but their time with the Hawks has made her more used to it, and this one is soft and white and beautifully stitched, with the ubiquitous fringe. She's honestly beginning to develop a taste for it. And it gives her something to look at while he talks, because of course she can't meet his eyes during such a scandalous discussion. Even if he were a real woman, she wouldn't be able to. It's bad enough to admit her feelings for Ghost Rat ( ... )

...Optional sodomy? Sodomy with Dan maybe? Eventually?
Also Captcha says 'hotspur William' which sounds a bit kinky for our favorite eunuch but I wouldn't put it past Byron to come up with all manner of odd stuff, just sayin'.

I wouldn't put it past him, either, really. And Asmoleda's just a silly girl who doesn't understand the world and doesn't realize that sodomy is always on the table. And that Daniel has already committed it christ alone knows how many times.

Ahaha. Well, she'll learn- or she'll run for the hills, I suppose. Either way I'm getting what I want. ^.^

It takes a lot of effort to make a speaking spell powerful enough to reach the Isles, and Laurel is touched that Daniel is willing to do it, especially when sweat begins to bead on his face. They reach Janet, Jon apparently walking another world for a while. She explains that Jon actually encourages his consorts to take mortal lovers, knowing his nature would make being faithful to him a wretched experience. She graciously adds some magic of her own to the spell, easing the strain a little for Daniel and showing them the round, shy-looking little man beside her, who introduced himself as Wallace. Laurel laughs and thanks Janet, then regretfully takes her leave to spare Daniel, who slumps to the side, laughing and panting. "Damn. Need to work on that."

She smiles. "You did fine. Now, how much trouble is this

It's about as much trouble as a wedding, allowing for limited materials. She has to walk down to the hot spring and wash carefully, which she is absolutely delighted to do Ghost Rat needs to do the same, but while she ( ... )

Asmoleda is glad he's restricted to his tent whenever she's out of hers. Not only does she feel bad for her unwitting part in his injuries, but for the type of thoughts responsible. She's mostly safe with the others. Byron is charming and informative to talk to, but he's old enough to be her father, William is too alien, and Daniel... Well, Daniel begins to present a problem of his own, but not an insurmountable one. He's not a man who insists on having his qualities noticed. He's really very courteous in all the ways that count, and she's had one uneasy dream that might have been about his hands, but she can speak to him without blushing, which is more than she can say for Ghost Rat. She has the feeling that if she saw him now she would do something as regrettable as it would be unladylike ( ... )
