She has another growth spurt, halfway through her second year, that leaves her too big to perch in his lap even with her legs folded; she's almost as long as he is tall, now, and her weight on the bed beside him has the uncomfortable familiarity of a lover's. Adrian never liked sleeping next to another person. He encourages Bubastis to curl against the headboard, instead, where he can lay his head on her flank and fall asleep to the sound of her breathing. She needs little encouragement; she hated getting tangled in the blankets ( ... )

There's an office Christmas party on the Wednesday afterward. Veidt gives everyone the rest of the week off, joking that they'll need it to recover from their hangovers. He himself doesn't drink, of course, and Bubastis is in theory nocturnal although she's had no problems matching his schedule. He takes her home, but stays only long enough to change; he has another appointment ( ... )

His latest (twenty-two, black-haired and muscular, economics major at NYU) is suprised by Bubastis, and it takes him a visible few breaths to control himself when she pads into the living room. She's been in an odd mood since yesterday, yowling occasionally and spending all her time winding around Adrian's legs and making tiny, distressed noises; he would comfort her if he knew what was causing her distress, but he suspects that cats, like humans, have their periods of inxplicable moodiness ( ... )

The really amazing thing is, this all makes perfect sense.

It grosses me out a little, because even a cat in estrus can't consent, but I'm intrigued by the notion of Adrian having anything resembling sex with someone he actually believes he cares about. I guess the cat won't be hurt - but it's damn skeevy - but Adrian's natural baseline is already "incredibly freaking skeevy", so maybe GETTING IT ON WITH HIS CAT will actually be an improvement. ugh adrian, you creep me out FOREVER.

lol, credit to Mr Moore: the most fucked up things we can think of here are always less fucked up than the characters in canon.

Her contentment lasts for an hour, long enough for Adrian to change into pajamas and curl up in bed with her - he'd almost gone to sleep on the couch, but she'd protested when he started to leave - before she starts making those miserable noises again. Adrian tries to soothe her, stroking her fur and scratching behind her ears, but it does little to help ( ... )

-takes a deep breath-

I am fond of your writing. The characterization is good. I like the rationalization. How he gets to this point. How uncomfortable he seems during.

with your pubescent daughter

MADE this. He sees her something beyond an animal. He sees her as this. Perfect touch. At least, it makes this just pedophilia instead of pedophilia bestiality. Though I don't think that's necessarily better.

And I think my preference of slash over het affected my reaction more than human over cat here. I don't know if that says more about you or me. In summery- This is good. And I will be waiting for more.

Once a year, for about a week. That's fine. He can make sure not to have a boyfriend at the wrong time of year. For the next week she's still moody each day until he makes love to her, and then she's deleriously content. He uses his hands and his tounge; it seems to be enough for her. It will have to be, as he can't nerve himself to anything more. After a week she's back to her normal self, affectionate and elegant and serene ( ... )

The young woman looks sheepish. "But Belinda likes it here. And it's good for their socialization." Belinda, presumably, is the kittens' mother. She's curled comfortably beside the basket. She's an Egyptian Mau, but the kittens are near-perfect miniature cheetahs, varying only in the slightly silvery fur. Adrian reaches out to touch one, suddenly enchanted.

Bubastis pads forward, whiskers quivering. Belinda twists herself upright and stalks to the edge of the desk. She and Bubastis regard each other solemnly for a moment, then their noses touch. The gesture has the dignity of a salute.

"Oh well, I suppose it's alright. As long as you're keeping track of them," the director mutters. The young woman nods vigorously. The director smiles at Veidt. "We're not very formal around here, I'm afraid. At least not in the pet department ( ... )

Oh man. Fucking the cat is one thing. Falling totally creepy and Humbert Humbert style in love with the cat wins a gold star. XD
