Jobwise, I say go with what you want to do - the rest will fall into place if you are doing something you enjoy. At least, that's my experience :)

I too have noticed the beginnings of the exodus. A year ago the concept of living in Birmingham would've horrified me but it seems a whole lot more palatable now.

As it stands there's one job in Birmingham that I've applied for and one in Edinburgh (then a couple of others down London way). There's also a potential for another one down in London, one in Nottingham and perhaps one in Manchester (but that one may take a bit longer to pan out).
