I'm in Elektrikal Endzhineering

When the prof for my HVDC class announced that the second assignment would be due on the 16th of February, I made the mistake of pointing out that that's the first day of Reading Week. Silly newbie, breaks are for kids. Apparently, grad courses don't stop for reading week; they just keep going like Japanese Bullet Trains. Actually, that's a bad ( Read more... )

Dude, that post ruled. You appropriately ended on a misguided wrap-up of your main points. bravo. *claps*

I forgot you were in grad studies; I wondered why I kept hearing about you being on campus, meeting up with Cher and such. I thought, if he graduated, why the hell is he still here?

I ran into a guy who graduated from CS last year and couldn't find a job, so now he's back for grad studies. I dunno if I want that to happen to me.

I heard one or two of the main poles at Dorsey was/were once knocked out in a huge windstorm, and Hydro lost 70% of its operating capacity instantly. Luckily, they've got backups in place for when stuff like that happens, and the system switched over to imported power before massive blackouts occurred. Hydro is cool. :)

I never heard of Dorsey before. It appears I must visit Japan as soon as possible. -Mannlich

Japan would be cool. Dude, if those two statements were connected though, lemme clarify:

Dorsey is a converter station at the southern end of Manitoba Hydro's HVDC line, which carries power from the north part of the province where most of it is generated to the south part where most of it is used. The station is located in Rosser, which is about 30 km northwest of Winnipeg.

It's a neat system; I learned a lot about the province's grid when I worked at Hydro. You can read up on Dorsey here:

Man, that is a great fucking post. You ever read The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy? I think you'd like it a lot if you haven't.

I haven't read the book, but I've seen most of the movie. I didn't like it that much. I seem to remember the meaning of life being the number 42, and a hot chick telling the other characters what the probability of something important happening was, but that's about it.

A book like that would be near impossible to make into a movie and still have the same impact as the book. Same thing with Kurt Vonnegut's books. Try it out, trust me.

And the naked woman fetish thing, that's fucking priceless dude! I haven't laughed like that in a while.
