Regarding consciousness: If you subscribe to bundle theory, making horcruxes is kind of pointless because you basically have to kill the entire world to kill Voldemort. If you subscribe to solipsism, you already knew this and I'm just reminding you.
Yes! that occurred to me right after I read HBP for the 2nd time. It never really seemed plausible that Harry would spend the whole book running about after 5 or 6 horcri. It would get a bit boring.
I'm pretty certain that the locket hasn't been destroyed, because there are several hints that it's been floating around Grimmauld Place and Mundungus Fletcher probably got a hold of it.
But hmm. Most of the rest of this post hurts my head.
Ooh. Good point. Didn't think about that before (tried to avoid thinking about book 6, didn't like it much), but you're right. If killing Harry would have been the 6th Horcrux, then Voldemort didn't have time to create it. I'll have to think more about the 5th, but you have good logic. Hm...
