One of the theories was Descartes’ theory that the only things that cannot be disproved are the fact that he exists because he thinks, and mathematics and reason. Since the Reformation posed a threat to the church, the church obviously had to fight back in order to retain its power over the population. And so, the Counter Reformation came to be. The most prominent topic this week was the Black Death. While the professor was talking about suffering and loss, I was reminded of the many other natural or mankind-caused disasters. Many interesting ideas and facts were presented during the lecture on Monday, however, one thing that stuck with me the most was the difference between idealism and naturalism.
