So she weighed about 280 pounds. Apparently he didn't like fat women. I prefer larger women myself, and generally think of fat-hating men as asshats. But at least this guy was willing to die for his opinions. And the sooner the better.

Not necessarily. It's possible that his wife became fat due to eating him out of house and home, and he stuffed himself in the freezer because he was sick of her driving him into the poorhouse with her gorging.
Not the route I would have taken, personally. I can't stand the cold.
