In the last movement of Berio's Sinfonia, he uses text and musical material from the other movements to create a very definite end to the piece. The text is taken mostly from the first movement, which is in turn taken from Claude Levi-Strauss' Le cru et le cruit, entirely in French. Adelson asked me to tape myself rehearsing my orchestra today, so that we can watch it together later and I can relive every little mistake (each of which I was painfully aware of as it was made) in horrifyingly accurate detail.
