Game of the Day - DC Round 3

Play the Game!"

Wherein some stinker plays EEKS.

I'm not skipping posting my poorly-played Round 2 effort because I lost; rather, I'm going to wait until I get my opponent's racks before posting it.

Just glancing through the game -- 4L ERUV is a bad miss. It's probably better than EH, and then certainly better than VAU the next turn.

If it's not too boring a question - the positioning of YOU on move 1. I always put YOU down with the O on the star. I think the U is an uglier tile for opp to utilize the dws above it. Do you have another reason for your placement?

I think I was thinking more about vertical plays -- trying to restrict access to the TLS. I don't know what Quackle would say (and Q would provide good insight). Is the risk of QIS, JAR, JOR, ZAS, ZOS, or something like XU/XU greater than the risk of JO or ZO or RAJ the smaller risk of a play parallel with a 4 point tile? They actually seem pretty similar. I wonder what others think.

other things that occurred to me as i glanced through the game.

- did you think of HEAVER from A4 when you played EH ?

- did you purposefully pass up rOOTAGE because of the comeback possibilities in the L8->O8 slot. From personal CSW experience, this is a more dangerous scoring spot for opp than in TWL typically because of the increased number of 2s.

- ?ADERUV - did you pass up the bingos again for being too low scoring? I've seen Nigel pass up low scoring bingos for other plays, but I don't think I can make myself do that too much.

I wish I were that clever!

I don't think I saw rOOTAGE, or I didn't really look too hard for it, maybe because the lane sucked.

I've got to think I would have played HEAVER if I'd seen it, because that's the sort of play I like to make. Apparently U(P)HEAVER and REVEUR H10 were also available that turn -- didn't know the words, and would prefer REVEUR to UPHEAVER at 1G.

OUtRAVED was a swing and a miss.

I suppose the moral of the story is that missing blank bingos isn't nearly as bad as missing naturals. And also that if you have a good sense of what spots on the board are important, missing an airball bingo in an unimportant spot is also not too bad. *shrug* That doesn't mean I played this one particularly well, though :)

Funny - UPHEAVER was the first thing I thought of when I saw that position - though I had no idea if it was good. Not even Collins - it's ours.
