So one of the processes that I went through during my legal education was the stripping down and rebuilding of my writing style as a tight, logically structured machine. While this is incredibly beneficial in a legal context, it makes me the most boring fiction writer ever to grace this planet. This becomes a problem when I try to do game stuff ( Read more... )

Use your progress report style as a skeleton or outline to work with. Fill in gaps as necessary for the meaty bits. Give me an example of what you've come up with, and I'll see if I can demonstrate.

Speak in a conversational tone. As in, the tone that you converse with your friends with, not your courtroom voice.

Dont think about structure of what you're writing. Practice 'thought-spewing'.

You can go back to edit, but I suggest that as long as your punctuation is pretty good, dont. Find some sort of outlet, some reason as to how you can just write until you can get back into non-legal writing. Like a character thing. Or something.

Step #2. Repeat Step #1 as nessisary.
Step #3. Show your non-sucking story to your friends. Tah-dah! You win.

Write it in a conversational style, like you're talking about how awesome the croûtons are.

Tell it in a character's voice.

Have your character talk about how awesome the croûtons are.

Then set it aside, forget about it for a while, and go back to edit later.
