(These scans are lovely! >w<)
-This time you chose a very simple and straight word as title for the new album: LIVE. Explain us what is the meaning of it.
M: Firstly it has the meaning of LOVE...
T: Eh? You just sticked that meaning to it, right? I didn't know about it (lol)
S: He's lying, he's lying! (lol)
R: Originally it was a staff's idea.
P: It's because it will be an album we produced already thinking to the lives we will have at the end of September in Tokyo and Osaka.
S: We will release an album after 1 year and 8 months, the title talks about the lives that we will have and it also has the meaning of "to live"...
M: Like, "right now", you know?
S: Right. A "right now" with the nuance of vivacity, life.
K: I really like this title because it has a big strenght. It's been a long time we had an album, I think the title is perfect to express the fact that we want to show to people what NEWS are "now" and not only.
T: I like it too. It has a lot of excited songs to face live performances after such a long time. This is another of the meanings. The songs we recorded are all good but this time there really are a lot of great songs. There are bright songs, sentimental songs and upbeat songs to make the fans have funny during the tour.
-Please choose a song of the new album that all of you love, one to which you are attached to.
R: "Endless Summer"
K: Me too!
T: For me too!
P: I like that too. Because the lyrics are straight and bright and it's a perfect song for that album. It also has a melody very easy to listen to. I'm sure that who will hear it will love it too.
T: The melody of the chorus is particularly pretty. It can be learnt in a second. At least I did (lol). Moreover, I love to sing about friendship, because to me friends are very important.
K: The song is composed by a part sung by each member, one after one they complete the song. For this I think that it will be a perfect song for the concerts. Also recording it was funny, a very good feeling.
R: If I can talk honestly, since it's not a song composed by ourselves I can't really feel its "affection" side yet. I think that that is a feeling that I'll be able to realize when we'll sing it for the first time to the public. By the way, "Endless Summer" is surely one of my favourites too.
S: I will be a little individualist but I'm very attached to "Be Funky!". It was the first time that our song was used as a drama main theme, and that drama was my first role as main character too. Between the songs of the new album it's the one I listened to the most, it was often played during the drama shootings because it was used as BGM too. The responce of the staff of the drama was very good about it, everybody said it was a nice song, I was really really happy (lol). I like that song so much.
M: Since I'm the one singing them I love each and every song. But I think that since those are all new songs it will be necessary for us to make them "ours" so that we'll be able to sing them live at their best. Though we already listened to them 100 times before the recordings (lol).
-The song of the title, "LIVE" was produced by Greeeen's Jin-san, already producer of the song "Weeeek". What was your first impression listening to it?
R: I thought "So long!" (lol). I mean, the demo had an intro and two more intros so it was longer and had different colors.
K: You're right (lol). Since on the demo the ones singing it were Greeen themselves, I thought it was a song very suited to them. But I thought the same when I heard "Weeeek" for the first time so I thought that probably that too would be a good song.
T: I thought it was very Greeen-style too. The chorus is sung with very strong voices, it's one of those songs that can blow away the stress.
S: I felt that it sounded like a composer's song. Of course it was produced by pros so it was really good. But it's not about quality, it's a song that made me wanna sing it since the first listening. NEWS have a lot of cool songs, songs with an "high temperature" so I thought that the song was perfect for lives. I like it a lot.
P: It was obviously a good song, the first thing I felt was the will to try to sing it live. It seemed a good song to raise up the tension.
M: And the tune was so high.
K: It was! That's why we put all our efforts during the recording! (lol). As Pi said, it's a perfect song for a live performance.
M: I wanted to record it too reflecting the atmosphere of the whole song. Trying to build up the excitement. We recorded it trying to image the festive atmosphere of a live.
-During the song there is a voice like *gacchi!?*, I wondered whose idea was that...
S: *Gacchi!?* was something that Yamashita-kun wanted, right?
P: Aah, right (lol). At first we didn't insert anything but then we started to discute if it wasn't better to put there something. So I said kinda joking: "What about some *gacchi*?". We got a little overexcited that time, I guess (lol).
S: And that's how, under Yamashita-kun's suggestion, we went *gacchii* recording it. In "Weeeek" too there was a "Ikimasu!" added freely by Yamashita-kun. I guess he really likes these ad-lib things (lol).
P: Saying that I like them it's a little too much maybe (lol).
[Ok, they made me crazy with this. I didn't understood, I heard the song, I din't get it again. I started to google "Gacchi" and I found nothing. I heard the song again and again...so after all my efforts, please enjoy the *gacchii* thing at 2:30 in LIVE =__= baka!]
-Ok, this was awkward. [No, he didn't say like that exactly but I'm tired so I put my own comment there XDD]. Btw, you also added the song you composed all together: "Share".
S: Exactly. It was already in "Koi no ABO" single but in that case the song was a record of the live.
K: That's why we're happy to have added a studio version of it. It's a song we created all together, it's full of our thoughts and feelings, it can shape the new album, it's really a great song.
R: We sang it for the first time during the previous tour, right? Since then we hadn't any concerts so it has the meaning of starting again from that. It was good to add it to the album.
S: But we didn't retouched it at all.
M: Right, we recorded it just as we wrote it. In order to listen to the feelings that each member wanted to put in it.
S: Maybe one day it will change but we tried to record it with this thought.
-Do you remember who firstly decided to create that song? 2 years passed though...
S: I think that probably none of us remember that (lol). I was talking about composing a song all together since many time before. But I was ignored by everybody (lol). Then during the tour 2 years ago I suggested it again and we started to work on it in a big haste. Yamashita-kun asked me to write the chorus melody of it and said that he would write his part of lyrics. I composed the track. Then we decided the order of singing over the track, we chose it playing Janken. Then we put a time limit and started to work on the lyrics. Finally we re-arranged it and recorded it.
-Do you remember the time when you wrote the lyrics?
K: I wrote the first part and then there was Ryo-chan's turn. He called me to ask: "Koyama, what kind of lyrics did you write?". Telling them at voice via phone was so embarrassing (lol)
R: I remember it! (lol) But I thought that it couldn't work if I repeated the same things that Koyama wrote so I wanted to know. Koyama's contents were positive so I tried to write something a little negative.
K: Right. Ryo-chan organized it very well. The 3rd one was completely the opposite though (lol).
M: Here I am (lol). Since we would have sung that song for the first time during the live I wanted to express the world of concerts. At first I thought that the meaning was a little off but then I decided that since it was something I said by myself it was ok.
K: Yes, since those lyrics were written by ourselves it was right to write whatever we wanted.
R: Really? (lol). Also to write "Inside countless encounters"?
K: ...those were the lines I wrote! (lol)
-What kind of images wanted to express the others?
P: I wanted to express our partnership. It's a song we wrote together so it reveals the real feelings we had 2 years ago.
T: I had the top part and I wanted to express my thoughts for all the other members and the ones towards NEWS as group. I wrote that walking at Shibuya. I parked the car to do some shopping and I was listening to "Share"'s melody. Just then I had the idea and I wrote it down on a block notes. It matched the melody.
S: I worked on it for 2 hours sitting at the table in my room. I put the track in loop, I didn't know how to start. Firstly I tried to write a keyword for the things that I wanted to convey, then I started to write down things. In the end I arranged them together.
-What was your impression when you heard the single lyrics put all together?
S: It was moving.
M: We decided together only the theme, I was afraid that the different parts wouldn't work together. But the things we wanted to say were the same in the end.
S: At the opposite, the 6 different parts together sounded really nice.
K: When I first heard it I thought how wonderful it would have been to sing it standing together on the stage. It had a big impact.
T: While we were singing it the first time I was looking to the others' faces reflected on the monitor. I was really interested on what kind of expressions there were on our faces while singing out our feelings towards NEWS.
P: You can see our mood on the first performance of the song in the DVD. I really think that the song that we wrote all together reaches in a very straight way the people who are listening to it.
R: I can't remember the support of the fans during that live. Because during the concert I tried to sing thinking "Don't get moved you all!" (lol). But when we sang it for the first time we got all nervous too. I think that our moods reached the fans very well.
K: I expect a great support for this song when we will sing it again live. Maybe it may become a popular song for our concerts.
-In the First Press Limited Edition Album there is the DVD "Unplugged LIVE", how was singing acoustically?
K: It was really fresh. Maybe the others already experienced it but or me it was the first time, it felt really good.
R: The piano player was pretty fast (lol). But it was really lively like this.
P: Right. I kinda never sang in this way so it was really funny. I hope we can do that again one day.
-When you sing acoustically the good points of the songs stand out a lot.
R: Because for once we don't dance but we only sing. I think that the most important thing of this DVD is the simplicity of it.
S: Since there wasn't an audience I thought that maybe it would have been similar to a music tv show but I particularly wanted to feel the goodness of the sounds unplugged. In order to let everybody hear real music we started to do our very best since the rehearsal, I'd like to show that too (lol). I want people to think that NEWS' songs are good.
M: With a different arrangement the atmosphere of the songs changed completely too. I think it's a DVD with a nice atmosphere. It was a new challenge for us, I'm happy we had this opportunity.
P: I feel that we did that having big fun. It's very important in performances that the artists too enjoy to do them, so I'd like to make this feeling reach everybody.
T: I already saw the video, it was so cool! What to say...the first time I sang and danced with NEWS was when I was 16. If I'm what I'm now it's because I experienced the same things of the other members during these years. I'm really happy that we were able to do this fashionable "Unplugged LIVE" as a group.
[Then there's something I don't understand, gomen my brain is frying]
-Just after the release of the album you'll have concerts in Osaka and Tokyo. How did you decide the title this time?
S: I suggested "What about "LIVE! LIVE! LIVE!"?". And we just thought that it was unexpectedly good, something like this (lol).
-What do you want to do in this live?
K: Of course we never sang live the new songs so I think that during this live we can make the new songs grow up. The songs can receive the support and the approvement by the fans and we will be happy to sing something fresh.
T: I'm glad because having concerts just after the release of a new album seems to have many interesting points. We too will be nervous to sing new things for the first time, for example. I'm waiting for it!
M: I can't wait to test the new songs live too. I want the concerts to come soon!
S: Since it passed many time since our previous tour I'm worried that the impressions will be completely different this time. Everytime we have to face new and different feelings, I'm looking forward to this.
-What is the song you can't wait to perform live?
R: To me is "Weeeek" (lol)
K: Eh? It was unexpected (lol)
R: No no! If you ask to people other than fans about a song by NEWS they will surely answer "Weeeek". Everybody know it and it's really amusing to perform it. I can't wait for it.
M: Right. Then there are "Sakura Girl" and "Koi no ABO" that we never sang live, I can't wait to perform them.
K: To me is "Koi no ABO"! The chorus was created by "Koyamapi" and I'm so happy that everybody can dance it with us.
P: Right. It seems that lots of people already bought the tickets. I want to do a live that they cannot regret. We will do the best in order to offer the best of the performances.
