Something minor.

More of the same posturing on how the US needs to retain its strengths in scientific research. It's getting old. To be frank, the nutbags on the left think that science and technology just further separates humanity from nature, while the nutbags on the right think that science and technology just further separates humanity from God. Indeed. To add - I think that there's this notion among some that there should be more visible progress, but it's not coming, so clearly the scientists and engineers of the work are just slacking off. What is not so clear is that at this point, scientific discovery is darn hard.

To take a trivial example - I heard someone gripe about how CPU processor speeds haven't leapt up as dramatically as they were 10 years ago. The issue is that the heating issue is significantly threatening the integrity of the materials used, and you can't do anything about it (except dunk the system in mineral oil, or other such tricks of the trade that are non-trivial).

People know nothing about how scientific discovery & knowledge work, though. Isn't that what we're seeing with "intelligent design" people and global warming denialists?

Where would you go, outside the US, that's more supportive of your work?
