Indeed. To add - I think that there's this notion among some that there should be more visible progress, but it's not coming, so clearly the scientists and engineers of the work are just slacking off. What is not so clear is that at this point, scientific discovery is darn hard.

To take a trivial example - I heard someone gripe about how CPU processor speeds haven't leapt up as dramatically as they were 10 years ago. The issue is that the heating issue is significantly threatening the integrity of the materials used, and you can't do anything about it (except dunk the system in mineral oil, or other such tricks of the trade that are non-trivial).
