Change. This happens a few months later. Ruki’s thoughts are italicized. I hope you like it.
Everyone had decided it was time for a break and only Ruki and Reita were left in the practice room. Ruki walked across the room towards Reita who was setting his bass on its stand. He nudged Reita’s leg with his foot. “So, what was it you wanted to tell me?” Ruki questioned with faux-innocence.
He still owed Reita money for buying him those sunglasses he wanted-those badass, sexy, and extremely expensive sunglasses he wanted. Ruki knew it was only a matter of time before Reita demanded he repay him. Reita turned towards Ruki. His face immediately split with a grin as he noticed how Ruki was fidgeting nervously. “I bought those sunglasses for you Ruki. You don’t have to pay me back.”
“How did you know what I was thinking?!” Ruki took a step towards Reita, staring at him in amazement.
“How could I not know what you were thinking? Your eye was twitching! Not to mention I haven’t seen you wear those sunglasses at all, other than the day I bought them for you. How does that saying go? Out of sight, out of mind?”
“Something like that,” Ruki mumbled embarrassedly, looking away from Reita.
“I wish you would wear them. They looked so cute on you!”
Ruki jerked his head to look at Reita; his jaw dropped at hearing Reita’s comment. “W-what?!”
“All day you walked around wearing those sunglasses, sneering at random people and scrunching your nose constantly! You need to practice intimidation in front of a mirror. Your current badass image only makes you even more adorable.”
“Pra- My ba- m-more ADORABLE?!”
Reita simply nodded, biting his lip to hold in peels of laughter threatening to escape. Ruki stared at Reita, frozen in shock. Reita stared right back, shaking with amusement. This went on for an entire minute before Reita remembered why Ruki approached him to begin with. “Look what you’ve done! I had something important to tell you and I’ve just now remembered!” Reita sighed and playfully punched Ruki-who was still gaping at Reita-in the shoulder.
Ruki snapped his jaw shut, tugging on his hair as he tried to ignore his embarrassment. “Obviously it wasn’t that important if you could be derailed so easily!” Ruki retorted, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at Reita. Ruki’s eyebrow rose as Reita shortened the distance between them. He took both Ruki’s hands in his, lacing their fingers together.
“Ruki…”
Ruki glanced to his left hand, quickly shifting his attention to his right hand, only to look over at his left hand seconds later. He’s holding my hands. Why is he holding my hands? REITA IS HOLDING MY HANDS.
“I have a secret to tell you,” Reita whispered, smirking at Ruki’s current state of puzzlement. Ruki nodded absentmindedly, staring at his left hand-still laced with Reita’s. His right hand wasn’t receiving any less attention from Reita; Ruki was simply too stunned to continue paying attention to both hands.
“I’m in love with you.”
Ruki’s eyebrows rose slowly in shock, only to furrow in confusion seconds later. He yanked his hands out of Reita’s hold. “B-b-but y-you... you t-told m-me…” Ruki spluttered as he stumbled backwards.
Reita swiftly grabbed Ruki’s hips, pulling him close to keep him from falling.“Be careful, Ruki!” Reita exclaimed with a chuckle. “How long have you had legs and feet now? Shouldn’t you know how to stay upright?”
“How can I be expected to have any kind of composure after that?!” he argued, narrowing his eyes at Reita. Reita grinned, moving a hand to the back of Ruki’s head and pulling him closer. As Reita leaned in slowly, he could see Ruki’s glare transform into a surprised expression. Laughing softly, Reita closed the distance between their lips, kissing Ruki tenderly. Reita pulled away after a few seconds and Ruki let out a soft whimper of combined disbelief and bewilderment. He just kissed me! Reita just kissed me!
“Will you do me a favor?” Ruki asked.
“Anything you want,” Reita responded with an adoring smile. Reita’s facial expression quickly turned into one of confusion. His body jerked slightly, startled as Ruki shoved his forearm directly in front of Reita’s face. “Ruki, what the fuck?”
“Could you just… pinch me?” Ruki asked as he squeezed his eyes shut tightly, silently pleading for his surroundings to be the same when he opened them again.
Reita laughed, gently pushing Ruki’s arm down. “Ruki, you aren’t dreaming. Open your eyes, you numbskull!”
Ruki slowly opened one eye, immediately opening his other eye so he could, again, gape stupidly at his best friend. “Reita… I don’t… understand,” Ruki stated slowly.
“What don’t you understand?” Reita inquired, gently taking Ruki’s hands in his.
“You told me you couldn’t change the way you felt,” Ruki responded in a whisper, staring at the floor as memories of the pain of his heartbreak washed over him.
Reita lifted Ruki’s chin with a finger, encouraging his friend to look at him. Ruki tentatively looked Reita in the eyes, blinking with nervousness.
“I couldn’t…”
Ruki’s face fell and he stared at the floor again. “Reita, you don’t have to pretend to love me just to make me feel better. I’m not a kid,” Ruki mumbled.
Reita cupped Ruki’s face-forcing him to make eye contact once more-and continued what he had been saying before. “I couldn’t. But Ruki, you could change the way I felt. And you did.”
Reita moved Ruki’s arms, wrapping them around his neck as he moved his own arms to circle Ruki’s waist. Ruki blushed as he realized how little space there now was between them. “But I didn’t do anything,” Ruki said, biting his lip.
“Cleary you did!”
“I did?”
“What, the love declaration and kiss didn’t clue you in?”
Ruki gasped and jumped backwards, pulling away from Reita’s hold. He slapped a hand to his forehead. “Holy shit. Reita, you’re in love with me!”
“You think?” Reita rolled his eyes.
Reita heard a door open. He turned around and saw Aoi walk into the room slowly, stopping a few feet away from his friends. He raised an eyebrow as he watched Ruki stand in front of him-as still as a statue. “What’s up with you?” he asked Ruki, scratching behind his ear.
“I’m sure you’ll find out tomorrow,” Reita responded in exasperation.
“Tomorrow? Why tomorrow?” Aoi asked, confused.
“Because that’s how long it’s going to take him to realize you said something.”

A/N: See? As soon as Ruki comes out of shock he’ll be happy! I realize I posted both fics in the same day, but I had already written the second half of this fic before I even finished the first fic. So, there was no reason to let it sit around, haha.
