Turn Back Time

I watch very little television and would probably have completely missed BBC1's 'Turn Back Time - The High Street' if colleagues of mine weren't involved in the associated tour. For all that I'm surely biased because it ties so closely into what I do for a living, it's an absolutely wonderful programme ( Read more... )

Am also enjoying it. I find it fascinating that the shop keepers had such a rosy image of the past and were absolutely horrified by "additives" put in by the victorians, such as sawdust to bread.
It aslo seeing the bakers and grocers coming at it from such different angles which came to the front in the war time one (that I've literally only just finished watching)

It's very good indeed. Sharon's background in Living History Museums like Beamish and Iron Gorge meant that we were looking out for it.

The Butcher's Boy is my new television hero. He's such a wheeler-dealer.

Mum told me about that programme - I haven't managed to catch it yet, but it sounds really interesting.
I'm doing my Care Of The Elderly block at the moment - you're totally right about the wonderful stories you here. We don't always have time to stop and listen on the wards, but I try to when I can.
Did you ever hear Grandad's Chicken Story, about a chicken he had in Egypt in the war? It is pure storytelling gold, and thank God we got him to record it a few years before he died. I have it on CD; I'll play it for you next time I see you. x
