resoect fir the hooker

Going out on a limb, was that supposed to read "respect for the booker"?

As for Empire, I am rapidly coming to the belief that players will only spoil the game and it should instead form the basis for a set of fantasy novels.

Oh and does this mean that my sinister native conspiracy was the end of Ricardo? That would generate mixed - yet positive - feelings.

There was something in DT report about the fall of New Terrino, but I've no idea whose military action that might have been and I haven't given any thought to _how_ Ricardo might have been killed. I just knew I wouldn't be attending the last game and that my cash and lammies would soon be just junk, so I simply wrapped the lot in a blood-stained kerchief and posted it to someone else.

Sensible is probably the best word for it. He was less interested in divine service or heroic deeds than he was in making a place, a home and a value for 'everyday' folk.

On the other hand, there's no goddamn way he'd have left New Terrino before every other 'commoner' and I was frankly appalled to learn that his replacement as LC Steward bugged out rather than fighting to the last.

It'll be good to see you at the Lions again, in whatever capacity.

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing some old friends, but I have to say that I'd rather spend time with the players than with whatever character they're playing these days.

I... I think I might be growing out of LRP....

That was more candid than usual! I no longer LRP, not for any burning reasons other than other things becoming more interesting and important to me. It was, however, some OOC wankery that started the rot and made me cast my eyes elsewhere. I remember the person, the place and just how hurt I was. I always had a theory that there are 'LRP friends' and there are 'real friends'. Perhaps I'm a bit harsh in that but I don't keep in touch with a great many people in any form who I used to see regularly. You shouldn't have to balance whether or not you will enjoy something because some of the company. That's how I started going off it all.

Yes. Absolutely this. I'd suggest that some real friends can be met _through_ LRP, but there's definitely a period when it's difficult to tell the difference. I know most of my enduring friends as a consequence of the hobby, but there are others to whom I devoted an enormous amount of game time but who I've since realised I simply don't have a great deal of OOC regard or time for. It's not even just a respect/affection thing - it's just that real life imperatives and values take us in different directions.

Which, of course, just makes it all the worse when people we like or respect for RL reasons somehow shaft us over something that's LRP related.

I completely agree. Few of my friends are people I have not met through LRP - or via people I knew originally through LRP. I'm married to someone I met at LRP. It's the understanding the difference you mention that makes it hard. You have hit the nail on the head. You don't realise until something happens to indicate how much you truly have in common as yourselves and by then you ( and potentially they) have already made such emotional investment. Still, it's a lot of fun when it's good!

Any group I have ever been in with you, or when I have encountered you in a field has always been an amazing amount of fun and a pleasure.

I can only recall one instance of us actually being in the same group (though an overheard lambasting of the rest of the Lower City is exactly why Ricardo elected Dale as his posthumous beneficiary), but I can certainly agree that it has always been a delight to role play with you.

Will Blingdini, for example, was a throwaway NPC (all four or five times he appeared!), but it was always a delight to re-encounter a character who had consistently drawn DOOM! laden tarot cards. I still recall that my (and your) response to that first spread that "could only make sense if you were _evil_" and the hilarious (from my point of view, at least) fact that every subsequent spread only emphasised that impression...

Southsea only _kind of_ counts as LRP, but I was delighted to have you as part if that team and I look forward to you taking part again.
