Happy Solstice!

Happy Solstice!

Hope those of you that can see the moon are enjoying the eclipse.  It is spectacular!  And only the second time in over 2000 years to coincide with the northern winter solstice.

It was overcast here. :-( No eclipse for me.

Doh! Gotta love the weather in Colorado... It was up in the 50's during the day, and was overcast for the beginning of the eclipse, but cleared up by the time the umbra made it's way across. Now I'm regretting not getting any sleep last night, but I don't know that I'll be around for the next winter solstice eclipse. ;)

Doh! I think the next one here in North America will occur in 2094. Still, I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it at 113 years old... ;)

Hi Erik,

When are you passing through KC again? I don't have a car yet (it seems I am entirely in limbo pre-grad school, got into a little debt and this is what I get...rofl)...[I am mature for my age in some ways but sometimes I feel like a six year old with how much I depend on my family...]

Also how did you go about setting up those boards for your garden? Did you pound them into the ground? I am thinking about starting a garden out on my folks' land but the dirt is horrible so I might need to add some soil.

Hey there! I won't really be passing through KC, (I usually take I-80 all the way out) but could possibly divert on the way home (to Colorado) if the timing is right. Unfortunately I'm up against a few doctor appointments and trying to get sutures out of my ankle, so my schedule has gotten a bit tighter. I'll probably be leaving Chicago on the 29th, so I might be able to head towards KC that evening. What town are you in again? Are you still at the 9460 number?

I set up the garden with cinder blocks, actually. I used them to outline the perimeter of the garden and planted herbs in the outlying holes in the blocks. We have relatively poor soil here, too, so it made for a nice raised bed. The blocks were also heavy enough that I didn't need to bury them in the ground at all. I brought a few of the blocks inside for the winter so I could keep some of my herbs growing in the kitchen. (I placed them in large shallow tupperware containers.)

Also, happy solstice and I'm glad you got to see the eclipse :) It was somewhat overcast down here!

I agree, rampant insanity has been dominating life around here, too. I'm leaving for Chicago in a few hours, but I'll try giving you a call again after I get back in town so we can try to catch up a bit.

Hope you have a great Christmas, too! Miss you, love you! *hugs* :)
