Happy Solstice!

Hope those of you that can see the moon are enjoying the eclipse.  It is spectacular!  And only the second time in over 2000 years to coincide with the northern winter solstice.

OK, not as exciting as Snakes on a Plane.  Still, I've seen tons of snakes lately.  Mostly garter snakes, which are still totally cool.  The unfortunate thing is that they often like to stretch out across the trail to sun themselves.  While hikers usually create enough disturbance to scare them off the trail before there's danger of stepping on ( Read more... )

My new garden may not be the prettiest, but it's functional, and easily expandable.  Using cinder blocks for bed's perimeter has provided an interesting layout.  16 cinder blocks, each with two square holes, equals 32 separate perimeter "mini-planters"...

They can't predict the weather even hours out -- as proven by the 6 inches plus of snow I just shoveled off the driveway when forecasters stated a few hours earlier we wouldn't get more than an inch.
