I'm a bit of an unchurched Unitarian, but occasionally they do something that makes me proud. Sure, they're a small denomination, but they are irritating enough to catch the ire of most fundamentalist leaders and the affection of Matt Groening (in a sort of "aww, ain't they cute" way). In my memory, they've always supported the rights of LBGTQ

I think so; in the same way some notable denominations risk it when they ask their congregations to ratify anti-abortion legislation. It's a tough call, though people tend to think it's easier when they disagree with their views. Churches have always been active in civil rights struggles, and I think most members feel it's worth the risk.

At least, I hope so.
