dessert experiment
Made brownies with crushed peppermint sticks on top this weekend. Trying to emulate my aunt's amazing recipe for selfsame brownies, but I got a tough, glassy top instead of the chunky crispy bits. science at work updates
We just did our first monthly stream water sampling last Friday, and I'm downloading and QA'ing all the data today: flowmeter, water quality meter, temperature sensors, water level sensors, rain gauge. Later today I'm meeting with the NC State Extension guy who's been helping me learn how to set up and troubleshoot the autosamplers. It's taken 6 ( Read more... ) -

On Axis' recommendation many months ago, I picked up a copy of "Getting Things Done". It's already doing wonders. My "native" organizing style is pretty close to this, but there are some extra tweaks that really help me focus on what to do when, not let things slip through the cracks, disregard distracting stuff better, etc. We'll see how long ( Read more... ) -
restful weekend
A nice, restful weekend. Last day of work celebration for Melissa on Friday. She really needs a job where she can use her big spicy brains. Scrumptious dinner and hangout with Shana and James Saturday. With the warm weather, I was able to get back to some projects that I really need to do outside. So thanks to many many people I've had a very recuperative weekend - much more so than the 5-day weekend encompassing Christmas. vacation so far
Thursday: Shopping with idontreadlj to get supplies to make some swank pillows for his place. Hooray for 40% off coupons from Joann Fabrics! That night I went to see "Avatar" with strontium90. Absolutely gorgeous film and I highly recommend seeing it in the theater. Topped off the night with traditional Jewish Christmas fare: Chinese food. :-9 ( Read more... ) -
