I still believe all of it, rereading it just makes me sad with the knowledge of where all the energy and spirit of community took us, bastardized into a sham patriotism that left me stunned at our willingness to forgo

When I remember how united we all felt that fall of 2001, and then I look at the state of public discourse this fall, my heart breaks for my country.

I had a lot of hope for us afterwards that quickly turned to dismay as fear corrupted the sense of community that showed its' face for too brief a time.
