Wasn't there a Simpson's once where Lisa was president, and Bart got out of paying national debts by claiming that the check must have gotten lost in the mail?

That's pretty much exactly our fiscal policy now. Except instead of hiding, we just lean casually on the lender's shoulder and say "Gosh, that's a nice economy you have there. It'd be a shame if anything were to happen to it..."
