I'm pretty miffed about how the Stranger continues to operate. The article about Atlas was generally fine, if weird, incorrect, and slightly mocking. The part that really sucks is how Eric painted us as harmfully paranoid - and then the fire department shut us down right after his article went out (speaking of which, Rina, can you fill me in on

Well, for all of Atlas' wonderful contributions to the all-ages circuit (or, at least, another attempt on Seattle's part for one), it's hard to be too sympathetic because, well, Atlas was for-profit, and they were doing something that couldn't really be manipulated in any legal way. Like everyone else, I'm all for Atlas and all ages (and, hey, they're gonna get there legit soon), but I'm mostly upset at The Stranger.

I'm not exactly siding with the Stranger either, but the issue seems more complicated than what is generally being presented to me, so I feel obligated to present the other view point.

It's a shame Atlas got shut down, but from the sound of it, they weren't really doing much to prevent it.

On the other hand, did the article really need to put in the bit about the fire department?

Oh, honey...

We were worried about the fire department from the get go and had several ways to dodge the rules while we worked stuff out. We've been slowly making the place more up to code since April: we cleaned up cords and wires, moved flammable materials away, marked exits, got smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and got outside advice on what was dangerous and what needed to be done. The main obstacle is that to pass inspection, we need to remove all of our extension cords and have an eletrician rework the place - really really expensive. We may also need to put a new wall in and re-do the entrance/exit.

It looks like Canada is giving me my own room after all? I need confirmation from one person... hopefully I can get it in the next several days. If not, I'll try to swing Marissa's room.
