Fic in other fandoms

So I've been trying out a few other fandoms, in case the most dire spoiler predictions come true and I need to ~flounce~ from SPN (don't worry, nonnies, you'll all get engraved invitations to my flouncing party if I do!) but I'm finding it a bit unsatisfying.

There's some really good Sherlock fic out there, but a lot of other places I'm finding the writing is not to my taste, except for where the SPN writers I already like are writing other fandoms. I really want to ship Bruce/Tony, for instance, but the fic isn't quite cutting it. One is not "bedecked" in a Black Sabbath tshirt & jeans, you just wear those fuckers.

Conversely, I've read a lot of Merlin fic, even though the show is not very good, because there seems to be a lot of great stuff written there.

Do you find there are differences in style and quality level of fic in different fandoms, meme?

I do think quality varies by fandom. I've gone looking for canon-pairing Gilmore Girls fic on ff.net and AO3 both, and it is all BAD. I've asked my flist, and everyone recs me the same 2-3 good authors - which are great, but they are only 2-3 authors!

But then GG fandom isn't (wasn't?) very big. I think monster fandoms are likelier to attract at least a few really good authors. Ditto monster ships. I could rec you some Bruce/Natasha, if that would help?

Meme, why the fuck do artists sign up for Big Bang if they also sign up for a hundred other challenges? Why do they spend an hour churning out half a dozen manips that are put together with as little effort as possible and put off responding to emails until after Wendy pokes at them when me and my beta spend six months slaving over the writing? How have I managed to get claimed by people who do this for every single year I have participated in Big Bang?

If they're not interested, they should drop out well ahead of time so I have time to find someone who is. If they don't have time, if they're sick, they should drop out and take care of themselves and their personal life first. RL > online, always. I mean, I don't care about my artist's skill, I care that they care. That's it. That's all. Is that too much to ask? My writing can't really be this bad, can it?

How Goes the Big Bangs?

Nonnies, how's your BB work going? Is it for SPN_J2 still? DCBB? SDMB? Sassy minibang? Or any others? :D

Myself, I'm working on editing my SPNJ2 BB, and wondering if it's too late to start a completely new idea for the DCBB.

I'm working on my SPNJ2 BB. I don't have a lot to do; my rough draft was basically complete, and I've only recently decided to add a scene and rejigger the ending a bit. That's going pretty okay, though. When I sat down to start working on it, I was pleasantly surprised - the rough was better than I remembered it being.

It's scheduled to post the last week of BB, though, so mostly I'm concerned everyone will be so tired of BB fic that no one will read it. :(

I'm working on a mini for the HardCore BB, and doing some non-fandom writing that's due right before the rough for the HCBB, and they're trying to turn into one fucking story and they need to STOP THAT.
