just using this thread to talk about it-- every time I see the title of these posts, I think of bender-the-were-car from futurama. It brings many a lolz to meme.

our kinkmeme vs. other kinkmemes

Someone wandered into the kinkmeme to complain about the practice of people making "+ 1" "seconding!" comments. Since they complained in the prompt post, the thread was consequently frozen:

My question is not so much how nonnies feel about that practice (although you're welcome to chime in your feelings about that, too!) as it is how much people do or don't do this at other kinkmemes. A glance at, say, avengerkink suggests this is fairly common.

More broadly, how does our kinkmeme compare to those of other fandoms in general? What does ours do that's weird? What does ours do that's better than you've seen other places? Our kinkmeme is the only one I've had anything to do with, though, so I'd be curious to hear what other kinkmeme cultures are like.

I don't follow many kinkmemes like I used, now I just check the WIP and Complete list posts. And that's a difference, many memes have a post for completed fills and other for WIPs and I fiand it really useful because authors don't have to wait for the mods or taggers to tag their story in the delicious or pinboard account and for readers is easier to follow stories this way (at least in my case).

Other difference is that spn kinkmeme is full of sexual kinks and very few emotional (it can be called that) kinks while memes like Avengers, XMFC, Teen Wolf and Inception mix it with angst, crack and silly prompts/fills. Which makes me happy because I love all those Phil/Clint fills where they go to meet Phil's family, or the ones where Derek and Stiles are parents to a kid!pack...

I am also interested in this, though. I made the "policing enthusiasm" comment in the linked thread, so my thoughts are that it's a little annoying, but part of an unrestricted culture so whatever.

I don't know exactly why but I feel like spn kinkmeme has a disproportionate number of WsIP, a good number of which never get finished. Personally I think it might come down to the fast paced nature of the kinkmeme, like by the time you get to finishing a fill the meme will have probably moved on to a new prompt post so there's this feeling of being better of starting a WIP and grabbing an audience rather than finishing it before posting and not having anyone around to read it?

generally speaking, gamer fandoms and comic book fandoms that are male-dominated are really blinded to gender issues. I don't think those fandom reflects a female dominated fandom like SPN at all.

Didn't mean to imply it did, sorry. Their desperate pathetic attempts to rationalise unthinking sexism made me appreciate our kind of fandom more.

But I do feel like our kind of fandom has gone backwards a lot.

These fucks are probably the same people who will argue for hours in favor of white Isabela mods.

That said, the anon above me is correct: with a few exceptions the compositions of gaming fandoms are different from the compositions of TV and book fandoms (especially on the modding end, as opposed to the fic end, where it starts to look more like a TV fandom), and they don't really reflect on each other. Gaming fandoms are generally a hundred times viler than the worst of SPN fandom, for reasons having to do with both the audience and the medium.
