I usually write for female characters bc thats more comfortable for me but I'm currently trying to write for a male main character for the 1st time ever and I keep worrying I'm not doing it right, that I'm making him too feminine or something. I keep feeling like I need to get my guy best friend to read it over for me to make sure I'm not messing the character up.

Any advice or tips for writing for the opposite sex?

I'd say, try and forget what guys are like and what women are like. This type of thinking will only get you into the land of stereotypes. Try focusing on why this particular person behaves this way or that, and don't think about whether it's too feminine or too masculine. For instance, when we don't take into account things like makeup which are only specific to one gender, how often do you or women you know show stereotypical female behavior? Imo, it's probably not that often. I stop to pet animals, but so do men. I go running, take a shower, eat breakfast, go to lectures while not being particularly masculine or feminine. You know? People are neutral most of the time. Think about your particular character, not about the fact that he's a guy.

a general bang thread anonymous June 5 2013, 17:57:53 UTC
spn_j2_bigbang has started posting! What are you looking forward to, how are those of you whose posting dates are near doing, etc.?

And SDMB writer signups have closed -- looks like sign-ups are down about 25% from last year, but it still drew a fair number of people (79 by my count). Anyone already working on it? Any artists still contemplating signing up for it? Anyone have particular Sam/Dean or Sam & Dean things they want to see come out of it?

And any other bang-related matters.

Sign-ups are low, though. If you asked the mods nicely, I bet they would let you in.

General kinkmeme chat. What fills are you enjoying, which prompts do you sort of want to fill? Has anyone quit for good after that debacle a month or two ago?

I'm not back. I don't think it's me officially quitting, since I filled an older prompt fairly recently, but I just haven't had any interest in reading the prompts, much less prompting or filling myself.

I'm tracking the RPF and FPF posts this month, and enjoying some fills. I've prompted a few things, though haven't been on any prompting rampages this time. Yet? So, I guess tentatively back ( ... )

In Season 9, I Want... anonymous June 5 2013, 19:24:25 UTC

Two things:
1. Can we flood this askbox with Dean/Sam to combat the Dean/Cas (so I can reblog that instead)?
2. I'd love to hear what meme wants from next season.

My list would begin grouchily "a less crappy writing bench."

da

I can't believe that expecting the writers, not to mention the damn show runner, to have watched the eps they weren't around for is above and beyond. Yes, it's eight seasons, but remember: you are being paid for this shit

ayrt

It would even help if they made sure that everyone writing in s9 had read/seen all the eps for s9. The lack of flow from episode to episode has always been a problem on Spn, but it did seem to get a lot worse in s8, where there were a lot of things that weren't strictly inconsistent but where it felt almost entirely random which of a given set of notes would be struck in a given episode.

Just watched "HOME" Season ONE. Wow. The boys are so young.

Linda H. ‏@bookdal 15m
@AdamGlass44 Missouri!!!!

Adam Glass ‏@AdamGlass44 12m
@bookdal Kansas.

FACEPALM.

Also, admits that he's not even sure if he's watched all the eps:

@AdamGlass44 9m
@WinchestersJ2 Yes. Through the years I think I've seen them all.

But aren't we fairly confident that some of the writers haven't seen all the eps? Even if Glass has just seen most of them, that's still doing better than I expect, honestly.

Glass is officially one of their senior writers/producers at this point. The fact that there's even a chance that he hasn't seen all the episodes makes me despair. It's bad enough when newbie writers haven't watched the whole thing yet.

I'm also side-eyeing the possible S1 retcons they are planning if he's watching old eps.

I'd say that anything about the writers watching old eps is good news.

Maybe the correction of Missouri to Kansas was a joke? Or a deflection -- maybe he's watching Home because they are bringing Missouri back.
