I think because I see it WIAWSNB as a completely imaginary world based entirely on Dean's perception of himself and his place within his family and world. So when I read fic about it, the story strikes me as nonsensical unless it deals somehow with the fact that this was going on entirely in Dean's imagination and reflects his own psyche more than anything else. And I felt like this story very much dealt with that: it felt like a story about Dean rather than a story about the Great Should-Have-Been, and I really liked that. (I hope that just made sense?)
