as a cashier, i hated that too. especially at the video store where most people rented one or two things, so the prices were so common, and the change was always the same. i'd always run out of the same pieces of cash in my drawer.

but i blame atm's. it really sucks when you're cash-less and a $20 is your only resort. i feel really really guilty when i have to buy something small with a 20, and i usually try to buy a little more to make it less evil.
