well, Belgium seems to think it's in Holland, if you judge by the advertisements, so you may not be too far off. (I suspect most of us may think Belgium is a state in Germany, though.)

We take a lot of flack for being idiots about geography (and granted, we are) but seriously, if I was 4 hours from France by train, I'd know which countries were in between, too. If Spain were having 149 Euro round trip specials, and Greece was having 200 Euro specials, I'd be pretty familiar with that, too.

I'm really getting the sense that Dutch people who haven't travelled outside Europe don't have any real idea of how huge the U.S. is. I mean, they don't have 50 cities in Holland, let alone states to memorize. I challenge them to find Phoenix on a map, then we'll start talking about countries whose biggest claims to global fame are waffles and sprouts.

My brother is obsessed with the Dutch because their empire lastest longer than anyone elses because it was an ECONOMIC empire. I say "but where are they now?" He replies "they have an incredible standard of living."

then you will be happy to know that the Proboscis monkey was referred to as the Dutchman's monkey by Indonesians, because of the resemblance in bulbous noses and bulging bellies.
