ok, they're from senaa (sana'a?). (although when i asked where in yemen they were from, the mom pointed to this huge picture of Mecca on their wall. I was like, nice try, old woman!). any N. Yemen info is appreciated: they're a weirdly secretive country when tying to google stalk!
My particular family is also helllllla traditional. My tutee is new to the U.S., speaks no english, is incredibly shy, and terrified of her mother in law - who is nice but very overbearing in the traditional arab MIL slavedriver/daughter in law way, so I need to figure out a culturally-sensitive way to extricate her from the house for our lessons. Otherwise, I suspect she will never talk for fear of getting something wrong and being yelled at.
