here's the cake I did tonight. It was supposed to be for a classmate, but since we ended up not making it to class tonight, we'll just have to eat it ourselves. Darn it all! Ah well... we must sacrifice for our art, yes?

Anyhow... chocolate sour cream cake with chocolate frosting and basketweave, buttercream decorations. This is just a 6" cake. :)  ( Read more... )

Pretty! I've been playing with frosting tonight too. I'm debating making a Hidden Mountain cake for 25th year. I was making white roses tonight to practice. I'm thinking of making 3 "cloud" cakes and a separate sheet cake cut out as a mountain decorated with white roses. I know. Not period. But its a BIRTHDAY cake! I'm not going to have great amounts of time and the roses are so quick and elegant. What do you think?

sounds good to me! Have you tried the 'roses on a stick' method yet? I did these roses that way, and while I need some practice with the transfer from stick to cake, it works GREAT. Much faster for me than the usual 'wilton' way of making roses. :P

That design sounds fantastic! You WILL take pics, right??? :)
