This was a really great story! I loved the rich detail and the adventures that never ended. Just what *were* those books anyway? ;)

A lovely story! I started it at work (shhh!) but didn't get to finish there. I was gathered in so much that I came back immediately after lunch!

You must have originally written in first person because I found a couple of pronouns that weren't changed to the 3rd person.

He opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

He began measuring James in all sorts of odd ways including the widths of my feet and the length of his fingers.

They distracted me just for a moment, so no big deal. Just thought you'd like to know for when you post it again.

What a fantastic glimpse into the world of a first year! I loved seeing the Prewitt twins, so much likes Fred and George :)

This was fun - James comes across well as an eager child (I particularly liked his fascination with the wall to the Muggle world), and there are some intriguing hints of other stories in the background. I confess I missed Xenophilius (incidentally - not a criticism but for your information - in Britain we’d use ‘shop assistant’ rather than ‘clerk’ - clerk here is a somewhat old-fashioned term denoting an office worker), but I enjoyed the encounter with Remus and Ollivander naming his mother as a Black - I’d like to know that story!

James disguising the books with help from the Prewett twins was fun. I don’t tend to see James as a book reader, but in a culture without mass media I suppose book reading would be more common, especially adventure books in non-parentally-approved colours. Lovely touch, that.
