An epic weekend

May 05, 2010 21:05

This past weekend, Jessica (beybladesabre) came down to Lethbridge from Sylvan Lake (a five hour drive)! I've been trying to get her down here for awhile, especially after we had such a rockin' time together doing cross-country schooling last summer... ahahaha, I don't think I ever posted about that myself, but you can see Jess's post about it here if you are ( Read more... )

friends, sampson, theo, rmtc, santana, saddleseat

Woot! Photos! TENTACLEPOTATOES! Saddleseat?! Louie was trained Country english Pleasure, we're told by his breeder (who I tracked down on BarnMice) that if we sit deep and say, in a deep voice, "Mooooooove" he'll do a park trot. We keep daring each other to try it, but whenever we start saying "Mooooooove" I break into fits of giggles like you wouldn't believe. That, and I kind of think there ought to be more to it than that, and he's also have about 11 years of straight H/J/E training since then.

Sam is SUPERCUTE. OMG if I didn't already have far-too-many-ponies....

We're having an XC clinic in June, and probably another clinic and then event in Sept. Wanna come? It's only an 8 hr drive... :P

LOL @ your intro line. :p Santana will park out if I hold his lead rope up high and say "park", so that's another clue that he was in the show ring at some time. He also overreacts to a lot of undersaddle cues and it seems like he thinks I want more from him than I'm asking for... I wonder if he was subject to some crazy saddleseat trainers who threw firecrackers to rile him up! Because on the ground, he's very quiet and well-behaved... not wild-eyed at all, like he feels like under saddle a lot of the time.

I'll come out there and mooooove Louie sometime! But it would be a mighty long HORSEBACK RIDE, since I don't have a truck or trailer...

On second though, I too would break into a fit of giggles if I had to say something that started with the noise a cow makes. :p

You can still help me sell Sam, even if you can't have him yourself!

Oh I am so going to try that with Lou. I don't know in which class he showed in halter. I know he eventually did sporthorse halter, though, so maybe they undid his NSH training for that. :P

Saddlebreds, I'm told, are just really sensitive to a lot of cues, that's part of what makes them what they are. Even without firecrackers. But who knows? When did you get Santana? Do you know much about his history?

If you ever get out here, while we still have him, you totally could mooooooove Louie! We do have horses to spare, you might have noticed, you don't necessarily have to bring your own. And yes, whenever you want info posted around here re: Sam, send it my way, I can usually get it into 4 english tack stores and 4 large lesson barns in the space of a single email.

Louie is a NSH? The other cue to get them to park out, besides holding the rope up, is to tap their front legs with a whip, although I'm not sure exactly where... and maybe it's on the shoulder or something instead.

Yes, Santana is Mr. Sensitive. :p I got him in April 2006 from a girl who had just trail rode him for the previous three years, but he had been pastured for the last year. Before that, he was owned by a racetrack manager, apparently. She said he was registered but she didn't get his papers from the former owner. It would be neat to find someone who could look him up in the registry. I could also track down that manager guy and find out more.

And we'll see about a road trip at some point! :)

OMG they give you cameras to play with at the track?! Where can I get a gig like this? Does it pay well? :D

The gear has to be top-of-the-line to shoot the blistering speed of the subjects, so yup! A lot of photography jobs provide the equipment since otherwise you are putting wear and tear on your own equipment when someone else is getting most of the $. It does pay well, though. :)

I think he looks fantastic!! and yes, SIT UP!! lol

He definitely knows his stuff - I noticed you even moved your saddle back for it - I wholly approve :D you should totally ask your Saddlebred friend for pointers/a lesson maybe?? that would be awesome in my book lol

And I totally awwweeee'd at the photo of Jess and the kitten - it's gotta be one of my favorites

Thanks! Once the arena dries up again, I'll see about getting Pep out. :)

Like I said, I need someone to yell at me! I think that started when I was first trying to get Sam to canter, and I was "helping" him by leaning forward... which of course, does not help at all, haha. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

Come to Canada! I see UK <--> Calgary flight specials all the time. ;) You missed us on your first North American venture!

And hey, I might be in your neighbourhood one day too, seeing as I have a bajillion relatives in England and plan to use your country as a stepping stone to get to Ireland sometime in the future. :)
