I worked until midnight last night, because I had heard a rumour that the UKBA release new appointment slots exactly at midnight, and I had a client who needed one (the UKBA, in their wisdom, decided last week to withdraw the special slots reserved for legal representatives). Happy New Year everyone. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas break and is now looking forward to the year ahead, as I am. I feel that I am due a bit of good karma in 2012.

So, my 92 year old gran has broken her hip, and needs hip replacement surgery, ideally today. She's all the way down in Cornwall, which is probably the hardest place for us to get to from here (even Scotland is easier thanks to flights). We held my mum's funeral and cremation yesterday. It was a lovely service, and my brother did an amazing job at reading the eulogy, I certainly couldn't have done it. I was worried that not many people would turn up - needn't have worried about that. As we walked into the church I saw that it was packed. People were having to sit in the choir ( Read more... )

Mum passed away at about 12:30pm yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day. I noticed a slight change in her and so was able to call my dad and brother, and we were all sitting with her and holding her hands as she slipped away ( Read more... )
