I think I'm weird when it comes to traveling. Most of my friends have traveled the world, gone at least to Europe and Asia. And I just don't think I have the same attitude to traveling that they do. I don't have the desire or drive to go see those places. Nothing pulls me there except a vague curiosity and a sense of I-really-should-because-that's-

On a side note, it's really not popular to admit that you like the idea of luxury, geez! I feel like I said that I hate puppies or something.

Although there's nothing romantic for anyone about seeing a third world country. Fascinating yes, but romantic NO. The thing I found is that whilst my parents are from Indonesia and they grew up surrounded by widespread poverty it is a very different experience travelling around there than it is in India. It's not just the Poverty that you are looking for but rather the culture!
Having worked for and stayed in 5 star hotels I tend to disagree I'm sorry. I see them as lifeless, self important, unnatural and esp with those extravagent ones in Dubai, they are tasteless and gaudy. Human achievement is represented yes, imagination? to some extent but I think there are more important things in life to spend money on such as the welfare of those less fortunate. Call me a socialist or a commie if you will but I believe it's unfair that such luxurious progress should be limited to the very rich.
I'll stop there before you HATE me with a passion.

For eg my brother in Law was potentially a racing car driver based on his skill, talent and dedication however the lack of funds is what hampered him from taking it from an amateur level to a professional one. Stories like this break my heart because he's a good man and he was excellent at what he does and most of all he had a true passion for what he was doing and yet could not fulfill the dream. so not everybody in australia has Equal opportunity.
But going back to that need for luxury I don't deny that some things architectural structures are beautiful and a symbol for human achievement but by the same token I reckon Mahatma Ghandi said it best when he said: “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed”
If you can't be satisfied with the basics you'll never find true satisfaction and therefore never really be happy. I won't go on about the matter.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say though, I'm not greedy - I just want beauty whether it comes in landscapes or housescapes. Doesn't everybody?
I think that if I was to be satisfied with the "basics", I should have stayed in Russia and enjoyed working on the land. But I was brought to the land of opportunity and sure as hell I'm going to take those opportunities.
Just like I'm not satisfied with the basics when it comes to people's minds (it's like saying you don't need education and all that "extra" knowledge, be satisfied with what you're born with), I'll always strive for something better in my life. Anyone who doesn't is either lazy or dull in my eyes.
